“Florian Shkodra Guesthouse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

I was at Florian Shkodra Guesthouse for two nights. The guesthouse is situated on the outskirts of Shkodra city, but I think it could be the best place to stay. Besides you can borrow Florian's bicycles. The house is running by Florian and his family. The bulding isn't large, but is cosy :) In front of the house there is a quite large garden where you can eat meals. If you pay the extra charge you can enjoy a delicious dinner. Moreover if you need to get somewhere Florian can help you find a transport.

Stayed for 1 evening at the guesthouse on my way from Tirana to Montenegro, and it was a great choice.
The guesthouse is at some distance from downtown Shkodra, but it's not really a problem because you can borrow a bike from Florian. He also arranged for a taxi to pick me up from where the mini bus from Tirana arrives, and can find a driver or guide if you want to see the nearby fortress or make a day trip to Lake Shkodra and Kosovo.
The best part is the dinner that he and his family prepare from the fresh produce from the garden. Tasty vegetables, home made chips, soup and bread, and wine and rakia made by Florian's father. I have tasted many rakias, and this one was certainly among the best.

We spent 2 nights at Shkodra at Florian, where we had a very nice and unforgettable time! We loved also the rooms, the garden and our host were very helpful. We tried the home made, original Albanian foods cooked by Florian’s family, and that was also great. The guesthouse is a bit far from the town center on foot, but Florian wrap the transportation up. It is relatively near to the Alban Alps, so this is a suitable place to relax before and after a beautiful hiking.
Thanks Florian, we will come back!

Great place to stay to get a real feel for Albanian life. Florian and his family were so welcoming and I enjoyed talking to him about Albanian culture and history. The guesthouse is a short distance from Shkodra centre but there are bikes you can borrow for free. The meals were delicious, and made with produce fresh from the garden. Florians father also makes really good homemade wine. Staying here was a highlight of my trip to Albania and I hope to return in the summer!

We had a nice stay at Florian's guesthouse. After months staying in hostels it was great to stay somewhere a little different and also see a more authentic glimpse of Albanian life.
The dinner was tasty and it was good fun sitting around the table and chatting with other guests!
Only thing is that the guesthouse is some way out of town (not a 5 minute walk as stated on the website).

We had a nice time over there, the family was very helpfull. Perfect location for sightseeing the region like Koman Lake, Castle of Shkodra and the Albanian Alps. The homegrown food, wine and Raki was great value and therefore we considered coming back to Florian on a later stage..

Only large disappointment is that he asked us to help promoting his guesthouse on Facebook. We did, but now he is only screaming very bad words and is acting as a moron on that particular facebook site, because of some conflict with a former resident. Really unprofessional and really sad.

I think we spend the worst night in that place. First this place is more suitable for people who lice country life or farming but for backpeckers who need to spend one night between Montenegro and Albania is not so suitable. You can reach the place only by taxi (4 euro one way), bikes were promised to us but in reality there vere not enought, no shops around (so it is better to buy some stuff before or you are obligatory to buy a meal). Our room was clean enought but bed linen was brought only at 8 pm. No towels. There were things of other people in the room, a big suitcase and wardrobe full of clothes. Only one positive thing -wifi connection is good enough
