“Other authors here seem to obsess about stupid cherry blossoms. I will actually review Hirosaki Castle”
-ORIGINAL donjon (main castle tower). Not a rebuild/reconstruction like most Japanese touristy castles. You can hear the ancient wood creak with every step you take in the castle.
-Large keep grounds also used as the main park for the entire city; good for seeing locals strolling around during daytime.
-Never any crowds, due to the isolated nature of Hirosaki City. At some hours you have the entire donjon to yourself!
-Great view of THE large mountain from the wall ruins.
-Small dojon (the smallest I've seen around Japan!) with not many relics inside. About the size of a large 3-story U.S. home. You can climb around the tower levels and view the relics all in 15 minutes.
-Tacky, dinky tourist shop within the donjon itself, staffed by tired looking person. Should be moved to a hut just outside this historic, preserved building.
- Grounds is far 20-minute walk from Hirosaki Station. Take a taxi or the 100YEN tourist bus to/from Hirosaki Station and the Castle grounds
- Dining hall on castle grounds (as is common with most Japanese castles).
Isolated but original donjon castle that lies in a park is the main attraction of this whole city. Worth a visit if you're already in the Aomori area.
