Stayed there in September 2013 for 5 nights.
I booked the Hotel via online. The check in was slow but smooth. The room I had was expectedly small like all Japanese hotels. The room was facing another building at the back. Since I was there on business, I was was mostly out. The room had a small bed, small table and very tiny bathroom that fit one sink and one baby-size bathtub (you will end up using it as a standing shower).
The room had the usual kettle and Japanese tea bags - but no stirrer or spoons. I am a coffee drinker and fortunately, there were coffee bags that you could help yourself to at a table next to the reception on the ground floor. These bags were very special and highly innovative - I have not seen anything like it. You can literally have fresh brewed coffee in an instant. See enclosed photo.
The location was very good since it was 2mins walk to the Kokura station where there are restaurants and shopping. But if you venture outside, you will find lots of street shopping - some in covered walkways. Food is aplenty.
I went to visit the Kokura Castle which was promoted as a tourist attraction. On the entrance they had a good writeup of the history of the castle in English and some pamphlets also in English. I paid the 300Y fee and went inside - it was a disappointment as everything else inside is in Japanese only.
Well since this is a hotel review, I will conclude that this is hotel has a very convenient and central location, is really very decent and cheap. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It is worth staying here if you happen to go to Kitakyushu.
