“River Cottage Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

My boyfriend and I had such a nice time at their River Cottage!! It was a perfect location for us to go explore all the cute little towns around them. We really enjoyed the brewerly tours and creamery tours and the summer festivals.

Room Tip: We LOVED the king bed upstairs, however it would have been nice to have a shade of some kinda over t...

My boyfriend and I stayed here after living outside the country for a year. It was a wonderful transition back to the United States. The area is quiet without much to do (but that was fine for us) and the house is comfortable (we were in the Rose Room). The breakfasts were FANTASTIC. We have stayed at several B&Bs over the years and this is hands down the best breakfasts. We usually couldn't eat the rest of the day because we'd indulged in all the delicious choices in the morning--homemade muffins, great omelets, fruit salads, etc etc. Would love to return to stay...or just for breakfast!

My husband and I came to Albany to bike the Sugar River Trail. The Albany House was just a few minutes drive from our trailhead which was great after a long day of riding. We stayed on a Sunday evening and there was only 1 other couple in the house which made for a very quiet stay. We enjoyed our dinner (which we packed in the cooler) out on the front porch amidst the hanging ferns. The Albany house is on a very quiet street. I think only 1 car drove past the entire time we were outside.

The house was built in 1908 and is decorated with some really neat antiques. The rooms are so cozy and inviting. We stayed in the Rose Room and the bed was the perfect amount of comfy after a day of riding. I also appreciated the free wifi since I had some business I needed to take care of.

The other couple didn't join us for breakfast because they had to get on the road early so it was just the two of us. Our meal started with a large fresh fruit parfait (yogurt, fruit and granola). The next course was an omelette with local cheese and asparagus and glazed bacon. Oh my gosh, the glazed bacon tasted like candy! To finish we had a delicious coffee cake.

We really enjoyed talking with the owners and the B&B was just our style. We won't hesitate to stay here again.

My wife and I recently rented the Albany House cottage for a month and to our delight agreed to accept our dog. Largely an uneventful stay, a clogged toilet aside, in a nice town.

On checkout, Margie told us she was keeping our $500 deposit! No reason, no list of charges, nothing. Goodbye, good luck and thanks for the money.

We made that place shine when we left and even bought a plunger to fix the toilet.

Steer clear of this place and notice the reviews from other travelers who got conned.

Room Tip: Any room at any other place in Wisconsin.

We spent one of our most relaxing evenings in recent memory at the Albany House. This is a very well thought out B&B. Everything you needed was there where you needed it: a footstool, a throw blanket, a fire all ready to light. We were the only guests as we travel during non-peak times, and we enjoyed spending the evening reading, listening to music and talking together in the living room. The owners melted away, coming if we rang, but otherwise letting us enjoy our evening. The breakfast was wonderful as well: poached pears with raspberries, roasted asparagus, egg blossoms, and glazed pepper bacon. Margie sat down to visit after we ate, and we enjoyed another hour talking with her before we left. Highly recommend this B&B. I know that we look forward to coming back.

Room Tip: Joshua Woods room has a lovely fireplace and is very spacious.

Beautiful ca 100 year old house. Pretty good central location within cheese country. All rooms but one are en suite and beds are very comfortable. Sadly for us, I think one couple wanted to do pilates and do lift and drops of furniture but that wasn't the houses fault. Breakfast was very elegant and fancy - but we're more of a working man's brekkie - Margie's baking was EXCELLENT!
She is known for her breakfast and for those with a fancy meal in mind, it'll be perfect. We also had some wonderful fruit. Wife and I are just eggs and toast kinda people.
Margie and Ken were the perfect hosts and the sitting room was wonderful. Thanks for a great stay.
Monroe/New Glarus/Monticello are great little places to visit.

Ourselves and another couple spent a wonderful fall weekend at the River View cottage across the street from the Albany House. It was a cozy, place with bedroom and bath on both main and upper levels. The beds were very comfortable and bathrooms very modern. We enjoyed an evening on patio near the Sugar River. Margie has decorated this place for comfort and relaxation!! She was also a gracious hostess! We were in the area for the New Glarus Oktoberfest and the drive from Albany to New Glarus was devine with the fall colors and quaint farms. A perfect place to enjoy southwestern WI in the fall!
