“Stayed overnight in the lodge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Our room was clean, but nothing fancy. Plenty of free parking. Our room overlooked the gorge. Had breakfast in their restaurant. There's a Tudor's Biscuit world right down the road.

“Better than other WV state parks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2013

Many rooms have a balcony with a great river view. The staff were helpful and efficient. My room was clean and modern, unlike other some other parks in the state. Good walking trails and overlooks. The only negative was the food at the restaurant, which was just OK, but some tables have an excellent view of the river below.

“Great Views of the New River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

This is another beautiful site to see, and hike in. There is also Jet Boat rides up the New River, although this time we were there on a Wed. and they do not run Wednesdays. Have taken it before and it is an awsome ride, up to or near the bridge. There is a restaurant, lodging, and gift shop. If in the area do not miss this.

“Hawks Nest State Park - What a view!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Ono of the most beautiful views anywhere! If you are driving either down or up I-77 through West Virginia, and you have a few hours to kill, take a detour over to the Midland Trail (U.S. 60) and travel up to Ansted, West Virginia. This park is right on the highway at what seems like the "top of the world" with panoramic views of the New River Gorge below. The New River flowing north-northwest out of North Carolina has two lives. One life is the wide, graceful flowing southern life. Then there is the rugged, narrow whitewater life as it enters West Virginia on its way to its confluence with the Gauley River to form the Kanawha River at Gauley Bridge, West Virginia. Hawks Nest is all about the view of the New River flowing below through many miles of gorge with trains, bridges and a dam on the beautiful New River. Once you leave the park, depending on which way you are going, the interstate is less than an hour either way. See it one time before you miss out.

“Take the JetBoat ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

And if you're lucky, you'll get Capt. Carl (I believe that's his name). What a character! Nice tour of the 6 mile long lake and up as far as you can go in the New River until the boulders block your progress. You'll get close to the New River Bridge and see it from below. Take lots of pix. You might even get to see the rafters coming at you from upstream. We had fun with a raft of folks and Capt. Carl. The tram ride down to the lake and back has great views--be ready with your camera as soon as you step aboard.
