I had always wanted to stay at the Nantucket Inn, ever since I first moved to Anacortes in 1976. It has changed hands numerous times in the years since I left, but when I was required to go back to town to do business there, I decided to stay. It had been recently updated and was very charming. It was a bit noisy in the front rooms of the house due to the traffic on Commercial, but the view more than made up for that. I thought the hosts were not engaged with the guests, though the husband was pleasant enough. When I arrived there was no person to be seen to check me in, though I clearly arrived well within normal check in time. Never did meet the other partner in the business. Plus, it was not clear how the breakfast meal was to be done, it was a mix of self-service and served; when I came down in the middle of the breakfast time, much of the baked goodies were gone and the host was not to be seen. He finally arrived and made my breakfast of cheesy scrambled eggs and some bacon. Not enough bacon as he ran out and I had to share the last three pieces with another guest.
Overall, I'm glad I stayed there. But I thought the rooms were rather expensive with few amenities of a motel, i.e. no pool, no hot tub. I didn't leave hungry, but I certainly was not stuffed by the breakfast. If you go, get into breakfast early...you'll have better luck with the baked goods and breakfast meat.
