Mount St Helens famously erupted in the early 80's. We saw the story of the eruption in the visitor centre then travelled right up to the Johnson's Ridge Observatory. It was fascinating to see the legacy of the original destruction still evident today, 30 years later.. The day was a little cloudy but the Mountain stood tall and proud. It all makes you realise the raw power of nature and how insignificant we are when nature decides to let rip! Allow plenty of time to really stop and look. We stopped in on our trip between Seattle and Portland and it did take a fair bit of the day - but well worth it.
