“Our special occasion restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

My husband and I have come to Ironhorse for birthdays, anniversaries, and just because for many years. The food is consistently good, and we love the atmosphere of the old high-ceilinged building overlooking the center of the historic part of town. They have a good wine list, and the service is well done.

“Surprisingly Good.. More than a Tavern”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Quite unusual menu for a Tavern atmosphere...

House-made meatloaf with Bourbon Gravy... Shrimp and Grits as good as Charleston.. and deserts that are also 10 on 10. Especially the Pave: Flourless Chocolate Fudge. Don't miss it.
Enjoyable sitting by the window as trains, people and cyclists go by.. quaint little community for sure.

“A bit pretentious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Can't decide between average and very good. My meal, duck, $26, was very good, husband got pot roast $22, liked the meat but sauce was overly salted. Wines on the expensive side. Waiter tried hard, he was rather new, when I asked for a subsitition on the veg, said he'd have to check with his chefs. They had sweet potato hash and it was Nov 27....kind of sick of sweet potato after Thanksgiving and leftovers.....subsitution was okayed but it seemd a bit pretentious. The other problem is the noise factor. It wasnt really crowded but there were a few tables of 8-10 people. Had to keep asking waiter to repeat himself, I could not hear him!High tin ceilings do not make for a cozy experience. They need to insulate somehow. They did have some wine specials at half price, more down to earth pricing. Overall though, good to very good.

“surprisingly good food in Ashland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Went for the first time in Dec. before meeting friend to listen to music in town. Jeffery(our waiter) was very friendly and attentive. We had gone in for a drink and I forgot my glasses, (he admited to me he was a little bored because at the time it was slow) he read the entire menu to me with great enthusiasm. The food was good, mussels really good, spiach salad with pears great but would have been better with fresh pear slices instead of canned, and the pumpkin soup was fabulous. Later went back for night cap and listened to more good music. I liked the atmoshpere and proximity to our inn.

“Not your late afternoon stop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012 via mobile

Not a great place for a late afternoon meet or quick glass of wine. Greeting was lukewarm (was I interrupting her day?). No list of wines by the glass, only a "Would you like red or white?"

Things improved when Jeffrey took over. He had a good knowledge of the wines avaiable and paired up an Australian Cab with roasted garlic/goat cheese and bread that was excellent.
