We stayed here for two nights on a recent trip to Kings Dominion based on its location and having enough points with Choice to pay for the stay. Check-in was very quick and we were in our room within a few minutes. The front desk staff was always friendly and available.
Upon entering the room, the air was stale, but that quickly went away after turning on the air conditioner to circulate the air a little. The room was clean, for the most part. The one big exception to the cleanliness was that the hair dryer in the bathroom was so covered in hair that it looked like it had started growing it on its own. I guess that may be an easy thing to miss when cleaning the room but it did make me worry about how clean everything else was (though I never did find anything else that looked unclean, so that could just be me being paranoid). The room was average size for this level of hotel with two double beds, microwave and fridge, dresser with a TV, and a small table and chairs. There was also a private balcony, which was a nice bonus. It appears that all 2nd floor rooms here have private balconies and all 1st floor rooms have patios - but these patios are open to either the parking lots or courtyard area depending on which side of the building, so they are not really private. I am not sure why the hotel does not have chairs for the balconies and patios. I guess you could drag the heavy room chairs out there, but it would be simple and cheap to put outdoor chairs out there and make it much more comfortable. Everything in the rooms is looking a little tired and worn. It could certainly use some freshening up, but at least they seem to be taking care of what they do have.
The free breakfast was smaller than most Quality Inns and other Choice locations that I have stayed in. There was sausage, a waffle maker, 2 cereal choices, yogurt, 3 pastry choices, and hard boiled eggs. They did not have juice or milk dispensers - they were just in pitchers sitting on the counter.
The location is nice with easy on/off access to I-95 and just a few minutes from Kings Dominion and Richmond.
All in all, it was on OK place. If I was staying on points again, I may return, but if I am paying, I think I would choose somewhere else.
Pick a 2nd floor room to get a private balcony instead of the less-than-private patios of the 1st fl...
