My husband and I were looking for a nearby spot to spend a beautiful Saturday afternoon and have an impromptu picnic. Bles Park fit the bill. There's a number of soccer fields right around the parking lot so I imagine it could get quite busy 'in season' but for us the parking lot was empty. There's also a small building there with mens and ladies accommodations. (Albeit no paper at this point in the season.) A few swing sets and kiddie amusements round out the built up portion of the park.
A small trail led away from the parking lot down towards a creek that's an offshoot of the Potomac. (A small island separates you from the main river.) There was a gravel path and other mowed paths to choose from that will take you on your way. According to the placards the VA side is a mix of various trails and nature areas. The Maryland side is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail system.
Overall we easily found a pretty spot to put up our camp chairs, have a small picnic, and relax with a book in the sun. A few dog walkers and joggers came down the path, but overall we had the place to ourselves. There was certainly a lot more area to explore but we were more in the mood for a contemplative sit. I do think we'll go back and spend more time walking the trail and seeing the sites. A wonderful little haven outside the bustle of Ashburn on a Saturday.
