“Great Time - Good price”

Sheraton National Hotel

My friend and I stayed for two nights at the Sheraton National whist on a two day visit to Washington, before flying home to London. We had a great stay, its a nice hotel although a little out of Washington itself but that wasn't a problem. The free half hourly hotel shuttle drops you off at a really good shopping centre (5 mins up the road) which has a metro stop 'Pentagon City' (another 10-15 mins and your in the centre of Washington). The Washington metro is really cheap approx 7 dollars for a one day travel card and it was quick and easy to navigate. The room was really nice reasonably spacious with two doubles in very clean, TV/Nintendo, had table and chairs (for all us Brits it came with a tea making facilities). The hotel had a large lobby with restaurant /bar/ mini shop and free internet access and the staff were really nice and friendly. We had the buffet breakfast (cooked and continental) which set us up nicely for the day. We also had room service one night which was good and each floor had ice/ snack vending machines.

    • Disliked — Just arrived back at the hotel one night to find the bar shut at 23:30 - we only wanted a night cap!

Pretty average hotel, typical Sheraton. Nice rooms, but awkward location. It's kind of tough if you don't rent a car. Close to Reagan airport, which is convenient to the hotel, but not really convenient getting anywhere else without a car.
The food in the restaurant was pretty much a huge disappointment. The service in the restaurant was slow too. Oh-well.... I'd probably stay here again, but it wouldn't be my preference.

“Nice Suites; Isolated location”

Stayed at the Sheraton National February 10 - 13 in a suite and was pleased with the room (approximately 500 square feet - 2 rooms) but the rest of the stay was average at best.

The hotel is in an isolated area without any services within walking distance. The shuttle runs to the Pentagon City Metro each 30 minutes and there are restaurants and other services there. It is best to have a vehicle at this hotel.

The bar is small and has an extremely limited menu even though it is attached to the restaurant...although you cannot order from the restaurant menu at the bar.

The service was spotty. I had reserved a 'city view suite' but was assigned a standard room facing nowhere. When I went back down they 'did me a favor' and 'upgraded' my room...

The consierge was unhelpful in calling for a taxi and took his time in calling for one (took 15 minutes). When I tipped him in advance the 2nd day, the cab was available in two minutes.

Internet was spotty and $10 per day in the room. When I complained that I kept getting knocked off they suggested that I call the internet provider b/c it was an outside company that provided the wireless.

The amenities were lacking in this hotel. The rooms were nice.

“A bit out of the way”

I stayed here for a conference, booking a winter rate of $89 per night. At that price, it's a great hotel. Rooms are what you'd expect from a Sheraton (as noted by others), quiet and comfortable. I wouldn't pay the normal price (over $200), however, since there are options in that price range that are closer to metro stops.

The hotel is really out of the way, and you have to use the shuttle -- which runs every half an hour -- to get anywhere. The restaurant is okay, with a limited selection of sandwiches and entrees. The emphasis was on the buffet, which was available at dinner and lunch. I couldn't see that there were other options within walking distance.

If you are planning any type of large function at this facility....do not waste your money. We planned a NYE vacation to the DC area. We booked a room at this hotel for the 31st of December and attended the NYE's Gala being thrown at this hotel. Unfortunately, for all of the hard work that the organizers did for this event (not asociated with this hotel), the Sheraton National Hotel did a horrific job in carrying out the event. From dinner service starting 30 minutes late to inadequate staffing and equipment in venue areas, the night only went downhill from there. Being a Starwood member, I have never received such horrible service from a Starwood hotel. Find another place to host your event and do not waste your time and money.
