“GREAT Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012

If I'm not mistaken, this is the original Marriott. It's been re-done at least once bit is in need of another redo soon. The rooms are OK as are the bathrooms but the hotel just looks a bit "worn." HOWEVER, if you are looking for a good place to explore DC without busting your wallet, this is the place. It's a very short walk over the Key Bridge right into the heart of Georgetown or a .2 mile walk to the Metro which will take you right in. The bonus is that there is a gorgeous walking path, 18.5 miles, just across the street. It goes right along the Potomac with views of the Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln monuments/memorials. There are honeysuckle, buttercups, berries all growing alongside the path. So, while the hotel fitness center is sort of a joke, you can get all the exercise you need on this path.

This hotel is perfect for a cheaper place to stay other than right in downtown DC. The metro is about a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. You can get anywhere in DC from there. The hotel is nice and quite large. The lobby/bar is very clean and contemporary looking. The food in the hotel bar is a fair price as are the rooms. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a cheaper place to stay while visiting DC.

Room Tip: Request a room on the water side.

Location: about ten minutes' drive away from DCA, and within five minutes' walking distance from Rosslyn if you have business meetings there. Bear in mind there's not much in the immediate neighbourhood if you want to pop out to get refreshments and snacks.

Check-in: quick and efficient

Rooms: quite dated, particularly the bathrooms. The windows have been soundproofed, but as the hotel is almost directly under the DCA flight path, you'll still be able to hear all the noise if you're a sensitive sleeper.

Check-out: quick and efficient

During my world wind trip to Washington DC I hooked up with a family friend who drove down from the Tri-State to see me. I spent only a few hours at the hotel but it was enough to give a review. Got in about 2am early morning after doing some late night shopping .

I was extremely happy that there was underground parking as the outside parking was full. It was a bit difficult to find the correct elevator to get to the floor however when I got to room, I was really disappointed with the small space allotted to the bathroom.

We tried one of the take out food restaurants listed in the room, this arrived in a very short time and was very tasty. The great part of the room was the very comfortable bed as I cannot remember a lot after lying down. It was a bit challenging to log on to the internet before sleeping as I believe the steps were not so clear.

May I suggest that the process to go online be reviewed to help tired guest to quickly catch up on the news. The Lobby was inviting, a lot going on at the same time when I checked out at approximately 10am. I think I will return

Room Tip: Great beds

Rooms were very comfortable. Short cab trip to G-town for my birthday celebration, under $10 each way. Can walk if it's nice enough out. We didn't get to experience either of the restaurants, but they looked very nice and good set up to lounge around with a drink. They only negative, is the late night pizza they recommended when I called the front desk was not very good. But, it was late and we ate it :)

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the city

Staff went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. Very nice lobby, bar/lounge, and restaurant on site. Average Marriott rooms- no complaints. Several school groups were there during my stay, which was not a problem at all. I would stay here again when coming to DC since it is close.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

I recently went to DC for business and because it was last minute, there was not much to choose from. Since I'm a Marriott person, I opted to stay at the Key Bridge Marriott over the other Marriott properties in Crystal City. My work travel agent told me that the property had been recently renovated (the description on her computer). Anyhow, when I got there the lobby and main floor areas were indeed nicely refurbished but that is where it stopped. The rooms are very small, the decor is tired and outdated, and it smelled musty out in the hallway.
Some advice to those of you who work out - there are 2 gym rooms downstairs near the pool. At first sight, there is a 24 hour workout area off the common area that has 1 treadmill and some bikes in it. When I first went down there I thought OMG! But when I saw people going downstairs I followed and found a decent weight area and more cardio equipment (including ellipticals) down there. Its not a very logical layout in my opinion.
The concierge lounge on 12 is really nice -- probably one of the better lounges I've been to. The PM food selection was really good and they had a red wine that was actually drinkable (aka didn't mind spending some $$ on). The staff at the hotel were all very friendly.
So, what is my overall assessment?
While the rooms are rundown, its not a bad place to stay. However, be advised that there is nothing around this property. There are no restaurants or stores within a 1-2 block radius. You can walk to Georgetown very easily and the Rosslyn Metro stop is 3 blocks away. But if you're spending long hours at the office in downtown DC and want to come back and then go out for dinner this property is not good for that. It would, however, be good for families looking to do sightseeing!
