“Good for the price with some issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2007

Spent 3 nights as a couple at the Hyatt Crystal City late April 2007. Freshly renovated rooms and a weekend rate of $99 / night was what decided us to book an "airport hotel". Given the good price, the hotel was fine, but don't expect anything more than 3 1/2 *, which is unusually low for a Hyatt Regency.
The goods:
- super comfortable beds
- freshly decorated rooms
- welcoming at front desk

The bads:
(some badly thought things in the rooms ("boutique style" but not too convenient)
- tiny bathroom with shower only, no shower door, no lock to bathroom door, no towel bars, floor gets soaked during showers
- extremely low shower water pressure
- noisy thermostast and ventilation, clicks every time it starts
- no desk lamp, insufficient lighting
- no drapes, only a shade that slides up and down (no privacy)
- stained carpet
- non existing service at breakfast at Cinnabar
- NO view (hotel is enclosed by office building)
- 15 minute walk to metro station (not 10 as said in some reviews), in fact the Hyatt is one of the farthest hotels from the Crystal City metro station.

While only 6 metro stops away from Capitol HilI, we felt a lot further away, mostly due to the long walk from the metro or having to wait for the hotel shuttle.
Can't say we would recommend unless you are traveling on business or on a very tight budget. The city otherwise was fabulous and 3 days were not merely enough to see it all !

  • Liked — Freshly redone rooms, super beds, good weekend price
  • Disliked — Strange boutiquish and badly thought room designs and decors

“very nice hyatt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2007

this hotel isn't as bad as all the other reviews made it out to be. it was very clean and the staffs were very helpful and courteous. shuttles every 30 mins to the airport and metro station. the only downside is that it is somewhat hidden from all the stores and restaurants (about 15 min hike). speaking of restaurants, you must try Ted's Montana Grill (the buffalo bison dishes are incredibly tasty and healthier than traditional red meats) do not eat at the hotel restaurant on the top floor unless you have money to burn (way way way overpriced for what looked like marginal food). the fitness center is very well equipped!

“Hyatt worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2007

I have stayed in so many hotels in the DC area...and I love the Hyatt. Yes, it can get pricey to get a room, but it is worth it! The staff is GREAT, LOVE the shuttle, and it is within walking distance to so many wonderful things. Also, check out the gym (nice machines!).

The food and drinks are WAY overpriced, though, so make sure to walk to those wonderful things to eat. And don't bring your car. They charge an arm and a leg to park (even for DC).

“Better Than Expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2007

This hotel exceeded my expectations, probably because some reviewers here stayed in rooms prior to completion of renovations. The renovated rooms are sleekly decorated, with oversized shower and modern, but comfortable, furniture/decor.
THE GOOD:
Towels were new, fluffy, and soft
Decor was modern, without being cold, room had been totally redecorated
Big screen TV
Room was quite large, for being just outside of DC
Bath accessories - soap, cream, shampoo-were upscale
Bed was comfy, loads of pillows
Restaurants I tried had great food for a hotel -- try crabcake sandwich at Lollibar, and salmon benedict at Cinnabar -- not as pricey as I would expect at hotel
Service was uniformly friendly, incl restaurant, front desk, and cleaners
Free shuttle to airport, reliable & clean
Conference rooms have very comfortable chairs, with high back that reclines, and all manner of A/V equipmt
THE BAD:
Lighting in room was energy saving (good) but did not provide strong enough light, esp in bathroom (bad)
No newspaper was delivered to room, even tho I was on top floor and even tho it was weekday
Would have liked a magnifying makeup mirror in bathrm, esp since light was so poor
Location - since this is in Crystal City, it does not give you any feeling you are near capitol, and you are surrounded by concrete office bldgs and hotels, very little landscaping
No coffee maker in room, but can request from front desk
TV makes a noise when you turn it on or off - similar to noise computer makes when you boot it up but louder-- as you're dosing off at night and the noise it makes when you turn it off is annoying
OVERALL - Very comfortable, clean, modern rooms located in an office park enviromt, but with easy to access DC via train. Also, I attended conference there, but everyone seemed to have paid differing rates. The conf rate was more expensive than the Hyatt website or discount sites. Shop around for lowest price -- people at conf paid anywhere from $129 to $189/nite for exact same room.

  • Liked — Size, decor and cleanliness of room
  • Disliked — Dim lighting, location in office park type enviromt

“great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2007

Stayed at the Hotel as a last minute decision on my way back from Norht carolina. The staff was very acomodating and the the room was excellent. Done is a very contemporary style with a great flat screen TV and modern bath. Similar to hotels I have stayed in on the west coast. I would recommmend it for travelers visiting for a short time. Not downtown but excellect value.
