“good place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

3 of us stayed at this hotel in order to catch an early flight at Reagan airport the next morning. The hotel room was nice, clean. The staff was courteous. We caught the 5am shuttle to the airport without any difficulty. The shuttle driver was pleasant. We paid a reasonable price for a good hotel at a convenient location. We would stay here again.

The staff here is outstanding. They are welcoming, knowledgeable, engaging, sincerely interested in the well being of their guests. I really appreciated that.

The rooms are average. This is a very busy hotel and they stay busy due to the 5 minute proximity to Reagan airport. This is the type of airport you want to stay at if you have a need to be at Reagan early the next morning or no more than 2 days. It is a place to sleep and shower...not much else.

The rooms are worn. Yes, they have new bedding...but the furniture is old. The aircon unit is right next to the bed...so whenever it goes on, you'll either freeze or sweat the night out in the bed. The bed is OK, but weird pillows. They are like half the size of a normal pillow...more like a pillow that should be on the couch. It wasn't comfortable for me at all.

The bathrooms are clean with good lighting. Lots of towels, good water pressure and hot water. But, again...weird shower head. it must be one of those fancy water saver shower heads that really doesn't give you good pressure and all kinds of funky types of pressure. Weird.

Do NOT stay on the 3rd floor. It is a former smoking floor. They have tried to disguise it with boatloads of spray...now it smells like a stale, awful smelling deoderized former smoking floor. EWWW.

They have some sort of fake Irish Bar which is their new restaurant. Overpriced and not good. There are so many other good restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk...or a free shuttle that will take you there. Legal Seafoods is on the way to Reagan, the Kabob place down the street and there are a few other places as well. There are many options rather than the hotel for food.

Rather disappointed that I wasn't recognized as a Priority Member. Not even a free drink coupon. Strange.

Very convenient to rent from Thrifty/Dollar next door. Prices are reasonable and convenient if you need a car.

Like I said, this is a high volume hotel for airport guests. For a few nights, you'll survive. For a comfortable longer term stay....you can do better.

Room Tip: Do NOT stay on the 3rd floor or any of the other "former" smoking floors. Can't beat...

Dear backstreets1250,

Holiday Inn National Airport is committed to providing to our hotel guests great service, products, and an enivronment that our guests can enjoy during their stay. In 2013 the Holiday Inn National Airport Hotel will be doing some improvements in the hotel; which will include upgrading the O'Malley's Bar making it big and better, also changing out the sleeping pillows in our guest rooms. The next time you are in the Washington, DC area in 2013, we'd love for you to stay with us again and see the changes we have made for our guests!

The bar has fallen to a new low for this hotel. The staff are courteous but the facilty is falliing into shambles. The hallways and rooms are clean but dated. I checked in and dropped my bags of before rushing to a meeting. Upon return my room key failed to open the door, with new keys in hand I tried again, no luck. Maintenance was now involved. After almost an hour of waiting in my hallway, the "magic" key was produced allowing me to retrieve my luggage. I was placed into the next room. The original room was incapacitated for the evening and my reward was a free breakfast - served by staff who were not interested in making sure I had coffee...
The internet (complimentary) was sporatic and cut out a few times resulting in lost work and repeated reboots.
I have stayed here before and was somewhat let down so it is "twice bitten" and I go to Hilton.
Proximity to DC is good, shuttle to and from airport is good. If desperate, works for 1 night....

Room Tip: There are so many other hotels in the area, pick one.

The airport shuttle was really convenient, driver helpful and friendly. the room was clean and fine, though small. Shuttle to to Metro trains really convenient. A great loose base for sightseeing in DC.

Breakfast was free as a platinum club member! Enjoyed our 3 night stay...you have to pay for parking but that's quite common in DC area. Close to airport and across street to Crystal City shopping. Convenient location for seeing the sites/sights of DC. We had a rental car which we got at the airport but if you take the Dollar Rental car shuttle it's right next to the hotel which might have been quicker. Hotel has been renovated and is nicely appointed but it is a bit older. Friendly staff.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

This has been a month of travelling for me, the first two weeks of which were spent at the Holiday Inn in Savannah. I wrote a review on that, giving it 4 stars because it really was exceptional for its cleanliness, location, etc. Because of early morning flights, I stayed at the Holiday Inn National hotel both last Sunday (August 18th), as well as last night (August 24th). The lobby is quite nice and its proximity to National is perfect...maybe a five minute shuttle. The rooms, however, are definitely older compared to the newer, more updated Holiday Inns. They're also abnormally dark, which bothers me. It seems that a lot of hotels are switching to the environmentally-friendly bulbs -- a good thing, of course -- but it also leaves the room darker. Holiday Inn needs to add a lamp or two to compensate.

The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, even at 10:00 at night. Also, another plus is that you are very close to old-town Alexandria, which has a cute street full of quaint restaurants and bars.

The summary: if you don't mind a bit dated rooms, this is a fine place to stay for a night (I wouldn't want a long-term stay here). Also, if you want to be close to restaurants, you're in luck. Just keep in mind that the hotel is on a highway, so you'll need to take a taxi, or perhaps the shuttle can drive you.

Stayed one night on business. The location is very convenient, rooms are large, clean, with all necessary amenities. Parking is extra (~15$). Breakfast was average. Nothing to complain or to praise too much.
