“Clean, modern, close to shopping/dining/METRO/DCA.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2011

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza NAtional Airport for two nights on a business trip to DC last week. At first I was bummed that I wasn't staying in DC where we usually do, but this worked out well.

The hotel is clean and modern. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly and extended my checkout to 2PM to accommodate my late flight.

The rooms had quiet, working A/C and all the modern conveniences - Internet/Iron/Flat Screen TV/Outlets/etc.

There was also a full Starbucks on the second floor of the hotel.

Within 2 minutes of walking, there was a large mall, a METRO stop (Crystal City Station), and a row of restaurants. One of those, Neramitra, is a Thai restaurant that I also reviewed on TripAdvisor and it was great. Within a 10 minute walk was Kabob Palace, another place I reviewed on TripAdvisor that was fantastic.

The hotel gym was adequate. It had an elliptical, treadmill, some dumbbells and some universal machines. The equipment was clean and functional.

Our taxi ride to Georgetown in DC was less than 10 minutes each day and the METRO would have been just as quick and cheaper. I'd happily stay here again if my company books me here.

Room Tip: Further from the elevators is quieter, in my opinion.

Stayed at this hotel for two nights, Friday and Saturday. The hotel itself is well maintained and very clean. The staff is pretty nice. However, room service is only available until 10:00 PM which I thought was a little odd. Also, the hotel is not really near anything that is within walking distance to visit. There is a metro stop not far from the hotel which makes it easy to get places. I would recommend this place if you're visiting on business, if you're here with family, i would try to stay somewhere closer to attractions or even restaurants within walking distance.

Room Tip: We stayed in a junior suite next to the elevator. I believe all the junior suites are next to the e...

The staff is first class: very helpful and friendly. However, they have removed the telephones on the room desks, requiring the caller to work from the bedside. Internet access in the room is poor.

I stayed here at the end of August for a business trip. The property is very close to the airport (DCA). Check in was painless and the room was as expected. Happy hour at the bar downstairs doesn't end until 930, so I got my money's worth down there. It is a short walk from the Metro and the underground shops in Crystal City. I would stay here again.

Very convenient to the National Airport. The hotel is a bit worn. The room was clean and the bed was soft - but it really needs an updating. The restaurant is below average and only eat there if you need the convenience. About 5 minutes from the airport - so good if you have an early morning flight. But beware, the hotel shuttle to the airport doesn't start running until after 5:30 a.m. and there are no cabs to be found at that hour.

I booked here only because they have a Starbucks on the Mezzanine Level. Unfortunately I got here on Thursday and had to stay through the weekend. This Starbucks was closed all weekend and the Potomac Bar and Grill opened late if at all. I wish I stayed up the street where all the action and open business was. The room was adequate, but pricey for how boring this place is. The location is good it's a 10 min walk to Pentagon City mall so at least thats a consolation. If you're here for a short business stay I guess it'll do, but there's better available in Crystal City than this. Parking is not cheap either at $21/day, take the Metro. The breakfast menu and buffet are limited and very average.

Hello KrazyMo,
Thank you for staying at the Crowne Plaza National Airport. Each weekend, events vary at our hotel so I’m sorry to hear that your stay wasn’t more upbeat. Crowne Plaza National Airport offers multiple dining options; Starbucks is a great for coffee on the go which accommodates high traffic Monday through Friday, and is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., also on the Mezzanine level there is the Veranda Café, open from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., which offers fresh seasonal dishes for breakfast and lunch. Lastly the Potomac Bar and Grill opens for dinner at 3:30 p.m. to midnight for all those late diners.
Due to our location, convenience to Reagan National Airport and close proximity to Washington, D.C. attractions, we charge an extremely competitive rate compared to the other hotels in the area. Compared to our competitors in the area we have customer friendly parking prices as we know the importance of this fee to our guest. That being said, please do accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

We take each review seriously as it serves as a tool in improving our service. We hope that next time you are traveling through the area you choose us to stay with us, Crowne Plaza National Airport.
Looking forward to serving you again!

My flight got cancelled and on the face of it, this seemed the best option among the reduced rate deals the airline had. At check in, the hotel did not honor the reduced rate given by the airport and I was too tired and travel harried to argue / look for another place.

The beds were a disaster, too soft and I could feel the springs. The linen low grade, rough and synthetic. The beds and linen reminded me of cheap motel chains I used in my student days. I had a terrible sleep that night. The room was musty and old, the A/C very very noisy.

Breakfast was a disaster, came there at 6:30 (with a bunch of other guests) to grab breakfast before my flight. Nothing was set up at all. The Waitress looked at us in surprise "we are supposed to be open at 6:30?" and then another surprised look "What it is already 6:30?". After waiting 15 minutes for set up, the buffet was comprised of processed foods of the cheapest lowest grade one can find and fruits that were already rotten.

The "pool" is the size of a standard hot tub, except it is a cold "pool" that gets "cozy" once 3 people crowd in there. Might as well not have one. Machines squeaked in the exercise room. The staff was neither friendly, nor efficient. I was delayed at check out because of a long personal phone conversation by the check out counter staff.

This was by far the worst hotel I stayed at in the Metro DC area, I could not believe such a cheap low grade hotel (beds, food, staff) could have the Crown Plaza brand and it was a rip off, even had I paid the reduced rate promised to me, and certainly a rip off at the higher rate I was forced to pay.

Room Tip: To get the best room, go to another hotel

Hello peerster,
First, we are sorry to hear that your travels did not go according to plan. It can be difficult coordinating hotel arrangements last minute in a large city. Crowne Plaza National Airport is sensitive to all travelers as we pride ourselves on being your home away from home.

Second, the airport has a ‘Distressed Passenger’ program which Crowne Plaza National honors. Your airline desk personnel would provide you with either a) a voucher, in which the airline covers hotel costs or b) a pink slip, signifying that you, the passenger cover hotel costs. The pink slip must be presented at the time of check in to be offered the reduced rate.

Third, Crowne Plaza National Airport has ongoing renovations to guest rooms which are all being renovated in phases. We want our guest to feel welcome and at home. We have also have had a new Chef join our team! Chef is changing our menu but unfortunately, it has not been fully implemented. We hope that next time you’re in town you have a chance to taste out new fine fair!

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, Crowne Plaza National, on TripAdvisor. We take this feedback very seriously, as it is used as a tool in improving our services.

We hope to see you again!
Crowne Plaza National Airport Team
