“Nice hotel in good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

I stayed here for 4 nights on business and found this a very good hotel. The rooms was decent with good free wifi. This location is great for Washington DC, just 20 minutes on the metro with the station a few blocks away. The area is also good with a nice choice of restaurants in walking distance. A good choice for business or a holiday in Washington DC.

The rooms were nice and clean. I felt very safe and comfortable. The service was fantastic, probably the best staff ever. Great location and steps away from the metro to get to DC.

Of course, it's good that the hotel is clean and conveniently close to the metro... But when you start your day, sometimes you need a boost : for me that was the hotel staff. I wish you to get your breakfast served by Naseema, the most friendly person, with beautiful smile. They are all good here, but she's the best. Helena

Room Tip: Not viewing the Fairfax Rd.

This is a convienent, clean and handy hotel. Everyone is extremely friendly from maids to reception to restaurant staff to bell staff to the shuttle driver. The Holiday Inn should take note of how well the entire staff makes you feel welcome.
We appreicated the complimentary shuttle. I used the gym which was typical for a hotel but did at least have multiple choices for cardio work out and a decent tv to view while working out.
We can not say enough great things about how friendly and helpful Karl was for our check in and check out process. Wish it was always like this when I check into a hotel. I would certainly recommend this property as good location and an affordable stay.

The bad:
Customer who need access to Internet service beware. The wired internet service never worked--at least for my laptop. I work extensively with computers and should not have had a problem connecting. After trying a dozen times, I gave up. Wifi was knocked out one evening due to flooding. Bad weather contributed. Staff did give me free access to 60 minutes or so of the business center computers, which still had Internet access.

The heating / cooling system only functioned when the fan was set to "high", which was quite noisy. I asked that this be fixed the morning after I arrived. Three days later, it had not been fixed.
The bathroom sink was partly clogged--slow removal of water
The room gets musty on wet days (not good for my allergies). It's a bit difficult to air out, even after the air clears up outside because windows won't open and the knob for the external vent on the air system was broken off.

The OK:
Decent, filling but inexpensive breakfast buffet. Quiet. Basic amenities. Staff was polite and sought to be helpful, but most problems were not fixed.

The Holiday Inn at Ballston is in a great location near the Metro, restaurants and shopping. It is located right off the interstate which made it very easy to locate, which was nice. The hotel itself was in need of renovation and the rooms were extremely small but it was clean. I would stay again simply because of location!

The Holiday Inn at Ballston is conveniently located near the Metro and the Ballston shops and restaurants. The rooms are pretty standard fare (we had 2 queen beds). The air conditiners are somewhat dated and noisy. All in all, though, we had no major complaints. The hotel rates appear to vary considerably depending on the day of the week and the length of stay. We managed to pay only $80/night some nights and up to $130/night others. If you have a car, you can pay an additional $10/night for parking (you'll need it... there is no street parking nearby). The outdoor swimming pool is fine, but nothing special. The exercise room is very small.
