“Great Location and Friendly Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Stayed here for two nights based on other reviews. Did not disappoint. Great location. Room was clean and the shower was powerful but the bathroom was small. We did not stay in the room much just to sleep so looking out and having practically no view was ok. Everyone at this place is friendly. This location was wonderful as it is right in the same building as the Metro. We took the Metro six stops to Smithsonian station where you are right in the heart of every museum. We had breakfast in Tivoli which is also in the hotel. It was quick and good. Then when we finished with the museums we came back and went to happy hour at A-Town restaurant down the block just in time for happy hour. Good food and we sat outside too. We also drove to Alexandria and ate at a wonderful Greek restaurant and did a little shopping too. We would stay here again.

Generally nice hotel but a little disappointed in the overall experience. Quite expensive by my standards yet still want an extra fee for Internet access. Really? Hotel lobby and common areas seem 'squeezed' but probably again a function of where it is. Very convenient to the Metro and to good restaurants. Half an hour to Capitol Hill by Metro. Will probably stay here again.

My family stayed at this hotel April 5 and 6, 2013. After reading some earlier reviews, I was hesitant BUT GLAD I STAYED. I don't know what others experienced but I had a very good experience. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. A previous reviewer said there were only sheers with no night curtain. That reviewer didn't look hard enough. The heavier drape was behind the sheers and was adequate. The breakfast buffet was terrific and saved a lot of time. Some of the course selections were smoked salmon and brie, scrambled eggs, choice of sausage, bacon, potatoes, etc. Croissants, danish, cereal, yogurt, fruit and coffee, tea, juices and more. A previous reviewer didn't like the buffet but I honestly don't understand how you couldn't like it. The hotel is conveniently located next to the Ballston subway stop and is only 20 minutes ride from The Mall. We ate in the hotel restaurant and again were very pleased. I would stay here again. My only suggestion is that they need to offer valet parking. The underground parking is tight and if you are elderly or an insecure driver you may find it difficult to self park. The price of parking is typical of DC. One additional feature is that you can walk to the Ballston Mall by way of a catwalk.

If you are not renting a car or wedded to taxi services as the Orange Line Ballston Metro station can be directly entered from the hotel. The Metro Bus hub is adjacent to the hotel. Pros: hotel personnel friendly and helpful, rooms clean, housekeeping efficient. Minuses: window(s) in room are small leading to a dingy feeling during the daytime, executive lounge appears to a design afterthought - one room just off the dining room. Overall decent value for someone not staying in The District.

Room Tip: Not any views to speak of as the building is in the midst of highrise condos etc.

The Pro's: The Hilton Hotel is located right in the center of the Ballston area in Arlington, Va. For traveler's coming from out of town, this location really can't be beat. Access to the Metro subway is right outside the front door. It's also a Metro Bus "hub", so you can get a bus to just about anywhere just outside the door. And there's a cab stop right outside the door, too. Don't order roomservice, only because there are dozens of great restaurants within walking distance.

Con's: The room doors slam so hard at night they'll wake you up!

I stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Arlington while visiting family in the area. This is a typical Hilton hotel: clean, comfortable rooms, plenty of space, good service. Parking is available in the attached garage for $17/night with in and out privileges. I would put this property between a 3 and 4 star hotel because it could really use a facelift. Also I booked a room on the club floor, expecting there to be a club lounge on the floor. Instead the club floor was like any other floor. The club lounge has been moved to a room behind the restaurant on the mezzanine floor, which appeared to be open to all (as long as you know about it.) In the club lounge there are free non alcoholic beverages available (nice to grab a water before heading out for sightseeing), apples and cookies. While my room was generally very quiet at night, until 11:00 p.m. there were a lot of doors slamming and noisy kids in the next room, something I had hoped to avoid by being on that floor. Rooms are not well sound-proofed.

A solid buffet breakfast was complimentary with the club room reservation, which was very convenient, and while nothing spectacular, was certainly substantial (eggs, oatmeal, bacon, bagels, fruit, etc.)

The hotel is located just next to the Ballston Metro line, which was also very convenient for getting into DC. So for the price paid for the room (under $120/night) I definitely got my money's worth and would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel itself is fine, and pretty much what you'd expect from a Hilton: a comfortable, clean, up-to-date, well maintained room, and pleasant service. The two things that sets this particular hotel apart, in my mind, is it's value and location. We were in town for a weekend of sightseeing in DC, so easy access to and from DC was important to us. Set right next to the Ballston Metro station, getting to and from DC from the hotel was a breeze. There's even a "commuter store" right next to the escalator where you can get information on the Metro, or by tickets or a speedpass.

Being in such a convenient location, I would expect to pay top dollar for a room. On top of this, we were in town the first weekend in April at what was supposed to be the peak of the cherry blossoms, which I expected would drive rates up. Yet we got a queen room for just a little north of $100 per night (plus taxes). Very reasonable!!

Two minor annoyances: First, there was apparently a wedding party staying in the hotel, and I was awakened at 4:30 Sunday morning. Not a big deal, but still an annoyance. Second, this property didn't offer free Wi-Fi, even to HiltonHonors members. I had just stayed at another Hilton property a week prior, and, as a HiltonHonors member received free Wi-Fi. When I asked about this at this hotel, I was told that free Wi-Fi is only offered to Gold level members, and that the policy is different at each property. I don't care as much what the policy is, I just wish it was consistent across the Hilton brand!
