“Good Location for Public Transportation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013

If you are not renting a car or wedded to taxi services as the Orange Line Ballston Metro station can be directly entered from the hotel. The Metro Bus hub is adjacent to the hotel. Pros: hotel personnel friendly and helpful, rooms clean, housekeeping efficient. Minuses: window(s) in room are small leading to a dingy feeling during the daytime, executive lounge appears to a design afterthought - one room just off the dining room. Overall decent value for someone not staying in The District.

Room Tip: Not any views to speak of as the building is in the midst of highrise condos etc.

The Pro's: The Hilton Hotel is located right in the center of the Ballston area in Arlington, Va. For traveler's coming from out of town, this location really can't be beat. Access to the Metro subway is right outside the front door. It's also a Metro Bus "hub", so you can get a bus to just about anywhere just outside the door. And there's a cab stop right outside the door, too. Don't order roomservice, only because there are dozens of great restaurants within walking distance.

Con's: The room doors slam so hard at night they'll wake you up!

I stayed 2 nights at the Hilton Arlington while visiting family in the area. This is a typical Hilton hotel: clean, comfortable rooms, plenty of space, good service. Parking is available in the attached garage for $17/night with in and out privileges. I would put this property between a 3 and 4 star hotel because it could really use a facelift. Also I booked a room on the club floor, expecting there to be a club lounge on the floor. Instead the club floor was like any other floor. The club lounge has been moved to a room behind the restaurant on the mezzanine floor, which appeared to be open to all (as long as you know about it.) In the club lounge there are free non alcoholic beverages available (nice to grab a water before heading out for sightseeing), apples and cookies. While my room was generally very quiet at night, until 11:00 p.m. there were a lot of doors slamming and noisy kids in the next room, something I had hoped to avoid by being on that floor. Rooms are not well sound-proofed.

A solid buffet breakfast was complimentary with the club room reservation, which was very convenient, and while nothing spectacular, was certainly substantial (eggs, oatmeal, bacon, bagels, fruit, etc.)

The hotel is located just next to the Ballston Metro line, which was also very convenient for getting into DC. So for the price paid for the room (under $120/night) I definitely got my money's worth and would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel itself is fine, and pretty much what you'd expect from a Hilton: a comfortable, clean, up-to-date, well maintained room, and pleasant service. The two things that sets this particular hotel apart, in my mind, is it's value and location. We were in town for a weekend of sightseeing in DC, so easy access to and from DC was important to us. Set right next to the Ballston Metro station, getting to and from DC from the hotel was a breeze. There's even a "commuter store" right next to the escalator where you can get information on the Metro, or by tickets or a speedpass.

Being in such a convenient location, I would expect to pay top dollar for a room. On top of this, we were in town the first weekend in April at what was supposed to be the peak of the cherry blossoms, which I expected would drive rates up. Yet we got a queen room for just a little north of $100 per night (plus taxes). Very reasonable!!

Two minor annoyances: First, there was apparently a wedding party staying in the hotel, and I was awakened at 4:30 Sunday morning. Not a big deal, but still an annoyance. Second, this property didn't offer free Wi-Fi, even to HiltonHonors members. I had just stayed at another Hilton property a week prior, and, as a HiltonHonors member received free Wi-Fi. When I asked about this at this hotel, I was told that free Wi-Fi is only offered to Gold level members, and that the policy is different at each property. I don't care as much what the policy is, I just wish it was consistent across the Hilton brand!

This hotel is connected to the Ballston Metro stop so it's very easy to access the city, at a price that will be about 1/2 a city hotel. The rooms are modern and well insulated from outside noise. I noticed when I left the room that there were some loud children next door, which I never heard through the wall. A big plus! On the down side, there are window-unit air conditioners which is below standard for a Hilton. The parking garage is "interesting" to navigate with pillars in the middle of the road, and spaces that require you to get within inches of walls and pillars. One of the more awkward driving experiences of my life (tip: don't have a drink at dinner if you are going to park here!). The pricing is good and I slept well, which is what a hotel experience is all about. There are a lot of choices in the area and this one is OK.

Room Tip: From the layout of the hotel, I'm not sure any of the rooms are better than others.

Stayed here last weekend while visiting my daughter in Clarendon. Given the outrageous prices of DC area hotels I was pleased to be able to book a room for $109 plus taxes using the pay in full no refund rate. The room, with a King bed, was clean and quite nice. Only complaints were about heating system. Difficult to figure out how to leave no heat on so that evening temp was cool for my sleeping comfort. Seemed to always trigger a/c which I didn't want as blower was noisy. Also, barely enough hot water for bath. Minor complaints. Great location to Ballston Metro. Located in Metro Center complex attached to station. Starbucks in complex as well.

I decided to take a last minute road trip from Rochester NY to Virginia to have dinner with my son who lives in Arlington. It was Thursday night and I wanted to leave on Friday morning. Armed with a general location and about 24 hours, I set off to find a hotel for one night. I picked the Hilton Arlington because the location was perfect, it was a Hilton, and they still had a room available at such short notice on Easter weekend. Also, I got 25% off! I could not have been more pleased. The staff was welcoming and the facility perfect. My room was tasteful, clean, and most comfortable...the bed was wonderful. This hotel is located right night to the Ballston Metro stop, for anyone wanting to head into DC and the cabs are plentiful and a reasonable price into Georgetown. I will make this my only spot when heading to Arlington!

Room Tip: Rooms by the elevators have a poor view, blocked by the hotel itself and the AC etc., no noise from...
