“Great place to stay for Washington DC tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2009

Our group of 4 stayed at the Embassy Suites-Crystal City for 7 nights while visiting Washington DC. The staff was very responsive to our needs. Because there were 4 of us, we called down for extra coffee and towels. These were delivered within a very short time. One evening we had only 30minutes to eat before needing to leave for a show.
One evening we had only 30 minutes to eat before leaving for a show. The restaurant
staff hustled to take our orders and serve us our food in time for us to eat . On another evening, we requested the shuttle for a trip to a restaurant several blocks away. The shuttle driver was on his dinner break at that time. We were willing to wait, but to our surprise the desk manager drove us himself. The hotel is close to the Metro stop. It is within walking distance, but the hotel shuttle will drop you off at the stop. It is a short Metro ride to all the DC monuments, museums, and sights. The complementary breakfast every morning was a great way to start our long sightseeing days. The suite set up was wonderful. The rest of us could stay up and watch TV or talk if another wanted to go to sleep earlier. It was a great value compared to other hotels in DC.

We stayed at this hotel on our family trip to Washington DC. The 'made to order' breakfast every morning was a highlite and we especially appreciated the convenient hotel shuttle which provides regular transportation to the Pentagon City Mall and Metro stop as well as National Airport. We would take the shuttle to the Metro stop and then ride the metro to the DC sites. The hotel has spacious rooms and we like the extra space and pull out couch. Recommend this hotel if you are visiting the Washington DC area.

There was a shuttle from the airport and it went to Crystal City anytime. We walked to a wonderful show called Cavalia which was a combination of Cirque du Soleill and horses. The hotel was nearPentagon City.
The breakfast was enough to last the whole day. The staff was very accomadating. The suite was roomy enough for four people. The price was right too.
We spent a week there and saw all the sights. We took a night time tour and the all day tour with a discount for taking both with On Board Tours.

My husband and I, along with 20-something members of my family, spent a weekend at the Embassy Suites. We were all in town for a funeral at Arlington but also wanted to take advantage of the visit to do the usual DC tourist things. The Embassy Suites was a great home base for us. The rooms were spacious, the flat panel tvs were great (not that we watched much tv) and the service was wonderful. On the last day of our stay, when everyone was dressed and checked out and getting directions to the cemetery (which the front desk had readily available for us) the hotel manager came and offered to set up a reception room for us all to gather in after the service. This is just one example of how well the hotel treats its guests. The breakfast was GREAT. And even though I had a prepaid reservation for one adult (the price went up by $20 when I made it two adults in the room...I guess to cover the cost of the "complimentary" breakfast buffet) they gave me two passes. I still think $20 for breakfast is WAY too much but it was, in reality, probably the best meal of our day. And the shuttles (one to the airport and one to the Pentagon City Metro station) are the absolute best thing about the hotel. Totally worth staying there just for those conveniences.

My one problem with the room - and one that a few of my family members also had in their rooms - was the state of the bathroom. It was WAY outdated. The light in my room flickered so bad that it gave me a headache and I mostly dressed in the hallway because I just couldn't stand it. The hook on the back of our door was broken, ripped out of the door and just kind of hanging there. And the shower head left much to be desired. Overall, they need to do some fixing up in the bathrooms. Also the elevator to the parking garage was out of service when we arrived so check-in was kind of awkward but I think they fixed it pretty soon afterward.

And I loved that they had a lifeguard at the pool BUT it was supposed to close at 10:00 every night and one night one of the lifeguards kicked us all out at 9:45 because she "had to clean." She was seriously nasty about it and we came very close to complaining to the management but decided that 15 minutes wasn't worth it when we could just come on and let them know here. :) If the pool closes at 10:00 it should truly close at 10:00. Not 9:45. You clean when the guests are gone, you don't kick them out early because you are tired and want to go home.

Overall - a great stay. And since we are going to be returning to the area at least once a year (to visit the cemetery if nothing else) there is a very good chance we will stay at the Embassy Suites again.

Stayed here from 9-10 to 9-15 2009.Short ride from Reagan national and van was prompt on picking us up.
On check in we were assigned room on 5th floor, since we are Honors members thought we would be on higher floor. Once that was straightened out things were fantastic.
Our room was on 10th floor and very quiet. Housekeeping were friendly and accomodating. Our room was missing bath robe on arrival and one was delivered almost before I got off the phone.
Didnt spend any time in the pool but it looked nice and clean.
Evening reception( FREE happy hour) was great. They had many brand name liqours and were very friendly. Most nights there were chips, salsa, veggies and dip and pretzels etc. Never did see anything empty.
Free breakfast was better than many restaurants. Most mornings there were fresh melon, pineapple etc. ONe morning there were canned peaches but everything else was fresh.
Other than the fruit there was bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, eggs with cheese, made to order omelettes, french toast, pancake, waffles, cereal coffee and 4 juices.
Saw bad reviews of this buffett before we left and were leary. They must have stayed somewhere else or just crabby people.
Motel is about 3 blocks from Metro and its shorter if you take the short cut thru the Marriott.
Many restaurants in the area, some good some bad.
Shuttle drivers very accomadating and will take you to most areas close to motel.
Safety was never issue as we returned at all hours of the day and night and walked every where we went.
Would go back in a heartbeat.

Stayed at the Embassy Suites Crystal June 29-July 4. Good: Very large rooms; great service; best breakfast buffet in the last 6 stays that I have had at Embassy Suites over the last 12 months. Ate in the restaurant (doubles as breakfast area) one night and was very good but somewhat expensive as is normal in hotels. Did not have the pool crowding problems of other posters - they did have a lifeguard which is highly unusual for a hotel and I think a good thing. Busy at breakfast especially on the weekend (July 4th) but able to find a table easily every day. They state 4 blocks to subway but really only three and 5 min - easy to get to. Theu even have a free shuttle to the airport and the Pentagon subway stop every 30 min. Very convienent and used it many times. Bad: This hotel is right next to a major freeway and the soundproofing is not up to standards. If you are on the wrong side of the building it will be noisy at night. Also, AC was weak and our ballast for the lights in the bathroom was going out - clear to any cleaning personnel in the room but not fixed (we did not report it). Summary: I did a lot of research on rooms and we have two kids so the two room suite, great breakfast, pool and restaurant was a perfect solution for us and would stay here again.
