“A Little Tired But Clean and Close to Metro Station”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2011

We stayed here for two nights during a family vacation to Washington, D.C. because of the price and the close proximity to the Metro station. The front desk clerk was a little low-energy, but nice and checked us in quickly and earlier than their posted check-in time. We got a non-smoking double queen room, which included a mini fridge, a microwave and a flat screen TV. The lobby was pretty old and the room could use an upgrade, but the beds were clean and comfortable with fresh sheets. The bathroom sink and vanity were tiny, but we made do without any trouble. There are vending machines and a coin laundry downstairs for the guests. We slept well both nights without hearing any noise, despite the fact that this hotel is located on the corner of a busy road and the highway. The online rate was just over $100 per night and included a free breakfast, but we skipped it both days because we were anxious to get into the city. The Metro station is about a ten minute walk away from the hotel on a nice bike path. I would say the area is totally safe. We walked to and from the metro with our small children (8 and 5) and had no problems. We were out past 11pm both nights and the only thing we ran into on the walk home were some cute little wild cottontail bunnies. This is a good budget hotel for business travelers or families who don't want to pay exorbitant downtown hotel rates. Highly recommended!

A comfortable place for a 3 to 4 days short stay. Rooms are quite cosy. They offer reasonable breakfast and vending machines to find something for drink and munch around. The Staff is friendly and helpful. Nearby there is 7 11 Shop on gas station.

Overall you get the value of money being spend.

I have been looking for inexpensive hotels in the Arlington area for business travel, and I have to rely on public transportation when I'm in the area. I was a little skeptical since the Econo Lodge is a two star property, but the reviews were encouraging, so I booked it for a one night trip to try it out. Everything you read here is right: the hotel is clean, the staff is friendly, and it is very close to the East Falls Church metro station. Do keep in mind that the walk to the metro station (down a safe jogging path in a safe neighborhood) isn't just a few feet and there is a significant set of stairs at the end of it, so it's not exactly a breeze if you have a lot of luggage (or it's raining [it was] or snowing). But for the price, this is a fantastic option as long as you understand what you do and don't get. I will definitely stay here again, and thanks to all the reviewers who gave enough detail to make me try this property out!

The best parts of this hotel are 1) reasonable proximity to the metro, 2) price, and 3) good french restaurant next door. As far as decor, ambiance, etc. you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: The seating for breakfast wasn't apparent so I took my clue from others and brought my food to m...

This was an excellent hotel with easy transport to Washington. Metro is an easy walk from the hotel, there are restaurants within a short drive and the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic but clean, quiet and affordable. I would stay there again.

We were two couples (60 somethings) visiting D.C. We would normally not consider staying at an Econo Lodge. However, the location to the metro, the price, the free parking and the reviews motivated us to check it out. Since we had arrived a day earlier than our planned date we had time to cancel reservations we had made at another hotel (for twice the price, not including parking and not near a metro station). The hotel is dated which made me immediately reluctant, but we asked to see a couple of rooms. What we found besides dated/smaller rooms were the cleanest rooms one could ask for. We obviously booked the rooms and stayed for 4 nights..7/5-7/8.
We found the hotel to be very adequate. The rooms were exceptionally clean. We could not find a spec of mildew around the tub, grout, etc. On our 18 night trip through the northeast we stayed in Hamptons, Holiday Inns, etc. and NONE were this clean.
We had a room with a King bed - no refrigerator. Next time we would probably get a room with 2 double beds, since they were a little larger and did come with a refrigerator. The 'bathroom' has a tub and toilet with the sink outside. Be prepared, the sink is in a small cubby - but there was a hairdryer although the counter space was small. There is no closet in the room, there is a place to hang your clothes on a rack, which was fine with us. The bed was clean and comfortable along with the pillows being comfortable. The 'breakfast' in the morning was not big by any means. they had cereal(s), muffins, pastries, toast, bagels, OJ, coffee, milk. People have mentioned in reviews that there was no place to sit to have breakfast but that is not accurate. Although you do serve yourself in the lobby area you can then go down 1 flight of stairs to a sitting area with approximately 6 tables with 4 chairs each. Of course you could take the breakfast back to you room but it is not necessary.
All staff members were very friendly, helpful and courteous.
The neighborhood is an older but very middle class type area. We never felt unsafe or felt like we were in any sort of crime area. Good French restaurant and a Deli next door otherwise very few restaurant choices with 5 blocks of the hotel. We either had dinner in DC before returning or we drove 5 blocks to Applebee's or other restaurants.
The walk to the Metro was about a 10 minute walk. There is a bike path basically outside the front door. It was a quick, easy walk to the Metro. However, the walk path is boarded by a chain link fence on one side and a tall wooden fence on the other. Although, the 4 of us never felt fearful by any means, I could see how this fenced in path could make someone walking alone uncomfortable. Also as posted in previous reviews this path takes you to the stairs to walk down to the Metro parking lot. Going down the stairs was easy. Sometimes we just took the short walk around and went via the road. It is an easy ride into DC, maybe 15-20 minutes plus one easy transfer to Union Station. Although this was our first time to use the metro, with our questions answered by the attendants at the boarding station we found it very easy to use the Metro.
Would we recommend this hotel? Definitely, but we want you to know that this is not a fancy hotel. This is a small, basic, hotel which is an alternative to the pricier hotels in the DC area.

Room Tip: Get the room with 2 beds & the fridge.

Very friendly staff, from management to house keeping;) They helped us with making our reservations for our tour of DC and answered all our questions regarding the metro bus; which was our first experience with the metro. I would definately book here again without any second thought! :)
