“A decent hotel with reluctant staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Hotel is about 10 minutes from the subway, a short walk from the Crystal City shopping mall with lots of restaurants. The metro connection to the Washington is very good. Complimentary shuttle bus departs from the airport only on request (about 10min journey)

The hotel is nice - normal Radisson standard, equipment and appearance is not the latest, but the room was clean, bed comfortable, but the bathroom is very small. The greatest weakness is the reception staff (majority), who are unwilling, unhelpful, they don´t like solved the guest´s problems and probably it is not even interested.

Breakfast in the restaurant is quite poor, little choice and often empty dish (but for unreasonably expensive price) and in the restaurant is very cold (low temperature) and drafty. If you do not have breakfast in the room rate, then you go definitely elsewhere - in Crystal City is a better choice at a reasonable price.

If you do not expect anything from the hotel staff and you will have good value accommodation, so the hotel can be recommended.

Overall this was a pretty good hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is nice if you fly into DCA. I flew into IAD, so it was about a $60 cab ride to get to the hotel. Didn't want a rental and parking is $20/day at the hotel.

The rooms were very nice and spacious for the most part. Beds were comfy. Nice, big TV in the room as well. The bathrooms were surprising small. And my hot water didn't last long. Perhaps I just had a bad bathroom, but not up to par.

The restaurant/bar was pretty nice. The grilled chicken was good and they have Yuengling!

Location is a ways from the Whitehouse. But very close to the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery. There is a metro about a 5 minute walk away, so it's easy to get around the city for cheap.

Room Tip: Ask for a large bathroom.

Have recently stayed at several of the other hotels in Crystal City and compared to those The Radisson seems rather bit "tired" and in need of a refurbishing. The room was smaller than average with a very small bathroom. The room was, however, well eqipped with a good bed, large quality flatscreen TV, coffee brewer, ironing board (and iron), refrigerator with freezer and microwave oven. On the downside the complimentary WiFi connection was not up to standard having a very low bandwith which made it almost useless.
The fitness room was rather small and only scarcely equipped.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less traffic noise from Jefferson Davis Hwy

We stayed there for 2 night. Parking cost me 20 USD per day. However, we still think that is better than hotel in DC. Acceptable price, large room, and free internet make the hotel a good budget choice. And there are several restaurants in walking distance. Of course it is not a luxury choice, and we heard but not loud noise from the airport.

The staff was great. The hotel needs to be remodeled badly. The floors were very dirty and the rooms are small. The location is great, but the Hampton inn next door is nicer and has a breakfast. We moved there after a day.

This property was acquired by Radisson from the Days Inn hotel chain. Understanding that and the location of this hotel (Arlington, VA) being just a hop, skip and a jump from Washington D.C. you would think the hotel would be a bit more up to date (look wise) with all of the modern conveniences. Unfortunately, this hotel is not. While the rooms are very clean they could use a refurbishing. Updated wallpaper would be a start (including the hallways which are kinda dark). We had an issue with our bed (which was a sleep number bed). It failed to adjust and was kinda hard but provided a good night's rest otherwise. The bathroom was well stocked and very clean. Note if you are driving to this hotel it can be a challenge getting into the parking area in front. Jefferson Davis Highway is a congested route with drivers who simply will not allow you to change lanes to get to the hotel. Parking is $20 per vehicle per night. Now for the good ... the rates here are very good for the location. In fact it was far and away the most affordable in the area (which has high rates and prices for just about everything). You get free internet access, better than decent sized room and the customer service is excellent. The folks at the front desk are very knowledgeable AND willing to assist you in any way (if only service like this was an industry standard!) Overall the experience was a good one and despite some of the minor flaws I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good room close to D.C.

Intro: I had a business trip in Washington DC and a friend of mine recommended Radisson in Arlington due to its proximity to the Metro and having a reputable name, Radisson was a safe decision. Indeed Radisson was overall, an ideal location and it sits with other large names such as Sheraton, Marriott and others.

Location: The hotel is only 5 minutes away from Crystal City Metro station, which means good connection to the city. The Yellow line runs to the convention centre via important connection such as L’Enfant Mall and China town stations. The blue line also runs through this station and connects well with other important stations. The hotel is few minutes away from Ronald Reagan Airport, which is convenient for people intending to fly to Canada and elsewhere in the States.

Reception: The reception, which is in Ground Floor, is well manned by kind and helpful staff. In addition, just on the near side next to the door, there are guards whose function can be a bit confusing for guests. They keep following guests asking if you want tour operators so that they get you good deals etc – whatever they suggest, sounds a bit dodgy.

Rooms: The rooms are en-suite and large, with a large flat screen TV, a fridge, a microwave oven and a small coffee maker. The double bed was confortable with bedside light and sockets for convenience in this world of personal gadgets. There is a wardrobe, which has an iron with an ironing board.

There is a study table with a chair and a study lamp. Also there is a comfy sofa on the side. The windows are large and give a view of the road and other building on the other side of the road (see picture).

Bathroom: The bathroom has a shower, a bathtub, a toilet and a sink for washing which has a large mirror (see pictures). The towels and toiletries are provided (shower gel, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion) in keeping with standard service for hotels of this level. The pressure shower worked well on day one, but on the next day it was clear that the shower needed some repair to ensure water doesn’t escape to other areas in the bathroom – which can be a falls hazard. The wash sink also was warn out, despite the taps being replaced on day two, the sink itself started leaking. The fittings in the bathroom seem really worn out needing a good renovation and modernization.

Restaurant: The restaurant on the ground floor was ok and they have tropical breakfast up to 9am and thereafter a buffet breakfast until 11am. The buffet breakfast was ok, although the prices of the rooms are not inclusive of breakfast so expect to pay at the till after breakfast. The buffet breakfast had all the basics needed for breakfast although there was no any ‘wow’ factor.

Internet access (wifi) was brilliant as it came free and of a good speed – well done Radisson for this.

Overall: An excellent location for business trips and affordable price. Being near a Metro Station is good although other hotels such as Marriott and Sheraton are nearer and may probably give slightly better customer service. Just my view though.

Room Tip: The hotel has two sides, the new side and the old side. Ask to be placed on the new side, as the old...
