Intro: I had a business trip in Washington DC and a friend of mine recommended Radisson in Arlington due to its proximity to the Metro and having a reputable name, Radisson was a safe decision. Indeed Radisson was overall, an ideal location and it sits with other large names such as Sheraton, Marriott and others.
Location: The hotel is only 5 minutes away from Crystal City Metro station, which means good connection to the city. The Yellow line runs to the convention centre via important connection such as L’Enfant Mall and China town stations. The blue line also runs through this station and connects well with other important stations. The hotel is few minutes away from Ronald Reagan Airport, which is convenient for people intending to fly to Canada and elsewhere in the States.
Reception: The reception, which is in Ground Floor, is well manned by kind and helpful staff. In addition, just on the near side next to the door, there are guards whose function can be a bit confusing for guests. They keep following guests asking if you want tour operators so that they get you good deals etc – whatever they suggest, sounds a bit dodgy.
Rooms: The rooms are en-suite and large, with a large flat screen TV, a fridge, a microwave oven and a small coffee maker. The double bed was confortable with bedside light and sockets for convenience in this world of personal gadgets. There is a wardrobe, which has an iron with an ironing board.
There is a study table with a chair and a study lamp. Also there is a comfy sofa on the side. The windows are large and give a view of the road and other building on the other side of the road (see picture).
Bathroom: The bathroom has a shower, a bathtub, a toilet and a sink for washing which has a large mirror (see pictures). The towels and toiletries are provided (shower gel, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion) in keeping with standard service for hotels of this level. The pressure shower worked well on day one, but on the next day it was clear that the shower needed some repair to ensure water doesn’t escape to other areas in the bathroom – which can be a falls hazard. The wash sink also was warn out, despite the taps being replaced on day two, the sink itself started leaking. The fittings in the bathroom seem really worn out needing a good renovation and modernization.
Restaurant: The restaurant on the ground floor was ok and they have tropical breakfast up to 9am and thereafter a buffet breakfast until 11am. The buffet breakfast was ok, although the prices of the rooms are not inclusive of breakfast so expect to pay at the till after breakfast. The buffet breakfast had all the basics needed for breakfast although there was no any ‘wow’ factor.
Internet access (wifi) was brilliant as it came free and of a good speed – well done Radisson for this.
Overall: An excellent location for business trips and affordable price. Being near a Metro Station is good although other hotels such as Marriott and Sheraton are nearer and may probably give slightly better customer service. Just my view though.
The hotel has two sides, the new side and the old side. Ask to be placed on the new side, as the old...
