“SO MUCH FUN!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

I have a six-year airplane loving boy. Watching these planes come in for a landing is just a ton of fun. Loud and windy!

“Fun, yet a little disappointing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

The wind on the day I was there was from the north, so the landings can from the south. Take offs are cool to see but landing would be a much closer experience. In winter and early spring, bring hats/gloves. VERY windy conditions.

“Great if you like noisy planes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

It's fun for about 15 minutes watching planes taking off and landing from close up. And if the wind is blowing right so landings come in over your head. Not so much fun if the landings take on the other end of the runway. Plane enthusiasts will be happier here longer than I was. But I'm happy enough walking or biking through the area. There are port-a-potties there. But there's nothing else in the area unless you walk a bit to get into the airport. Nice river view of DC, if you care. Decent but loud spot for a picnic. Free parking.

“Fun place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is a fun stop to get out and watch the plans take off or land. Also great if you enjoy taking photo of plans. Hope this helps.

“Are the planes landing FROM the North?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Basically, if the plans are landing "North to South" (so, from your view, it might seem that they're landing from the Marine Corps Memorial TOWARDS Alexandria, then you'll definitely want to stop by. As they planes land, they will go right over your heads, and it will blow kids' minds.

Also, another tip. Keep an eye peeled. If it looks like a propeller plane is going to land off to the side (it will come slightly to the left if you've got the runway behind you), then head down the Mt. Vernon trail, which is near the GW Parkway. There's a shorter runway there, and those planes come in even CLOSER. It's wild.
