“Great Hotel close to a Metro Stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2009

This hotel earned its 4-star rating with its excellent service. The staff was extremely accommodating and the facilities were excellent. The location was within walking distance of the Metro stop which would take you directly into DC.

We booked this hotel thru Hotwire (came up as four star hotel in Arlington) and paid $109 a night, so obviously we were happy with the price. Parking was an additional $22, but that's standard for this area. All in all, we were very happy with the hotel. The location is fantastic - two blocks from Metro, one block from a mall, walking distance to tons of restaurants, including some very nice ones. The rooms were clean and comfortable and well appointed. We had a king room that was actually quite large. We stayed for three days and did not use the pool, bar or restaurant at the hotel, so I can't say anything about them. But we would stay here again. Very convenient.

I've stayed at numerous Westin's around the country and this one is the second worst (Boston tops my list of worst stays). The hotel itself is uninspriring for a new hotel, the lobby is small and uncomfortable. The pool/hot tub closed early so that I was unable to make use of it during the operating hours. My bills was off by a factor of two- I had to get a significant number of fees removed (which they did with little hesitation).
The room was fine- standard Westin- nothing exciting. Overall, the stay was uninspiring but adequate.

The Westin was beautiful, but they don't seem very accomodating to business travelers. They charge for WiFi and the paper if you want it delivered to your room. The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean, but I did not consider the hotel a good value.

My husband had a pet food convention at the Westin Arlington Gateway so we received a discounted rate of $169/night. Hotel is upscale, centrally located with a mall nearby which isn't really much to speak of. We did not rent a car but instead took a cab from Dulles Airport. Cab ride was less than $25 from the airport. Plenty of restaurants nearby to accomodate eating out however scarcely nothing else nearby. Note that the metra is right down the street which will take you into WA DC.

Hotel lobby is sleek and clean and has fresh lemon water and apples sitting out for there guests. When checking in I asked if it was possible to get a king instead of the double (Online only double was available). The lady who was waiting on us told us no without even looking, but the other gentleman at the desk said there was so we were switched.

Rooms are very clean and comfy. Bed is very comfortable. Bathroom facilities very clean, meticulously maintained and stocked with Shampoo, Conditioner, lotion and a nice bar of soap which incidently is shaped like a leaf and smells really good. We were supposed to have a terry cloth rob and a bottle of body wash which we never received in the 3 nights we stayed.

Good lighting in the room, coffeemaker which they only provide one coffee pod per day which incidently only makes 1 - 12 oz cup of coffee. If you want more you must purchase additional pods.

Although the room has air condition, it never cools below 72 degrees even though we set it at 68 because it still seems warm. Even at the temperature of 72 degrees it seems terribly humid in the room.

There is an internet connection in the room, however to use it will cost $10/day. The television in the room is a LG flat screen. Very nice on first glance but turn it on and you have another story. The satelite reception left alot to be desired. When turning it on it takes several minutes to get a signal and even when you did on certain channels you missed ever third word.

There is a pool on the third floor as well as a hot tub. However, the hot tub, is very low of water and barely deep enough to reach my belly button. The pool is a nice size but is like getting into a warm bath. Also the water seems a bit mirky. There is a full time life guard. Nice plus towels provided sitting on tables near the pool.

The one really superior thing about my experience with this hotel was the nice young lady who cleaned our room. On Monday, I was in the room when she came to clean. She was very polite and quiet while doing her routine. She noticed that a light was out in the bathroom and called to get it fixed. She was very thourough and quick about her work.

All and all, this is a very nice hotel but I am not sure I think it is worth even a promotional rate of $169/night. For that kind of price tag you should get top of the line as well as the extra amenities for free as there really isn't much to see or do in general vacinity.

I generally like staying in Westins, and when I found out that the company I was visiting was located very close and had a promotional rate, I was really looking forward to the stay. However, this was fairly disappointing... Yes, the bed and TV were quite nice, but...
there were a lot of little disappointments. No single thing contributed to the low rating, but the total experience was not optimal.
On check in, we were asked if I was going to use the mini-bar. I normally never do, so said no. Thus, it was explained, I didn't need the key to it. Huh? I thought the whole idea of a mini-bar was to make pricey morsels temptingly accessible.
The room-- very ragged around the edges. Shortly after my spouse and I got to the room, Housekeeping knocked and gave us some bar soap. Turns out, there was none in the bathroom. I didn't think too much of this, except later when I noticed there was no shower gel. I asked for some later that evening, and more bar soap was then delivered. Also, the usual amenities (such as a shower cap, Q-tips, etc) were non-existent. The tissue box was nearly empty, but there was not a spare one provided.
The rug had some stains, not terrible, but not what you'd expect at a Westin. The a/c tried hard to cool the room, but it never did become the same temperature as the hallways and other public areas. In the bathroom towel rack, the decorative brackets that hide the wall mounting had come off. Very classy. (Also, no robe provided).
Is the economy hurting that much??

The rooms are wonderful- the bed is heavenly. The LCD TV is awesome- the shower is great and don’t forget the free Starbuck coffee. Most of all I love the smell of the shampoo and bodylotion.
The hotel is few blocks from the subway(5 minites walking) so traveling to the DC is not that difficult after all. It takes 24 minitues to Capital South. There's a mall nearby the hotel (one block away) so it makes it easy for cheap dining options. Starbucks adjacent to the lobby for those who needs coffee. Most of all I prefer the lobby. You can sit there with your coffee and use free Internet.
Daily parking $22 (we never find the garage for $1, nearest 1 block away cost $20 for a night), high internet fees $10. We didn’t eat in the hotel because breakfast and diner are both very expensive.
Nice workout facilities with a Pool & Jacuzzi. The pool opened around 6am and then closed at 10am, and remained closed until the evening (either 4pm or 6pm) during the week. There is a lifeguard.
