“Perfect for The Family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2008

With the great HotWire deal and AmEx points, a 4 night stay at this 4-star hotel came out to $75 a night for 2 adults and 2 kids. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was super-clean and neat. The "Heavenly Bed" was the most comfortable bed ever--I didn't want to get out of it! I don't understand the point of the "Heavenly Shower" though. We had a rental car and the hotel valet parking was expensive--$22 per 24-hour period. Didn't really see any other place to park off-site, though, so stuck with it. The Metro was an easy 2 blocks away--VERY handy. We requested a fridge for left-overs, breakfast stuffs/snacks, which was promptly brought up and installed in our room at no extra charge. The kids enjoyed the pool--that was definitely the highlight of the trip for the little rascals. Who wants to see the Lincoln Memorial when there's a POOL back at the hotel!! ;) Tip: Wi-Fi is no-charge in the lobby area.

I stayed at the Westin Arlington Gateway with my parents for two nights and had a wonderful stay. The common areas of the hotel could not have been nicer. The valet staff was excellent. I had no sooner come back from checking in than they had the car unloaded and ready to take us up to our room. The front desk staff was top notch as well. There had been some difficulty with my reservation that they corrected for me and followed with a phone call before I had left for the hotel. Our room was very nicely appointed. I was pleasantly surprised to see HD television programming available in my room.

The Westin Arlington Gateway is located in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington. There is a mall (not the best in Northern Virginia) with a movie theater, Macy’s, and most importantly the practice facility of the Washington Capitals. The Ballston Metro stop is a quick walk through a very nice park like area behind the hotel.

I was very impressed with the parking facility at the Westin Arlington Gateway. Most of the hotels I have stayed at in Northern Virginia that have garage parking have either shared that garage with an office building or the operation of the garage has been by an outside contractor. The parking at the Westin Arlington Gateway had the feel of being an in-house operation. The parking is all valet and will set you back $22 a night. That includes unlimited in and out for your car. Also the valet parking folks have a lobby on the top level of the garage (the garage is under the hotel) for you to wait in while your car is brought around. That would be a wonderful amenity in what can be brutal Virginia summers and pretty chilly winters not to mention just regular rain. There are less expensive parking options near the Westin Arlington Gateway but you get what you pay for and will have to walk some pretty long blocks to get to your car.

The only negative thing I can say about the Westin Arlington Gateway is the speed of service in the restaurant. We ate breakfast there as a party of seven. Granted we were a rather large party but 20 minutes for nothing more complex than bacon and eggs is a bit too long.

All things considered the Westin Arlington Gateway is a great hotel. I will stay here again when in the DC Metro area.

My fiance and I stayed at the property during the weekend of July 10th through 12th. The stay was designated to be a little getaway for the both of us. For such a nice, upscale hotel in Arlington, VA...our room rate of $99 was a steal. (Published room rate in the room said $550/ night.) I booked this rate directly through the hotel's website. At arrival, we were promptly greeted by valet and the bell hop. Once we entered into the hotel, we were greeted by three hotel staff who welcomed us and showed us to the front desk for check-in. Check-in was a breeze...we were promptly sent to a top floor room which was wonderful...clean room, plush, king bed, big screen flat panel tv, excellent view of the city, lounge chair and ottoman, modern/ sleek bathroom with the famous "Heavenly Shower." I have no complaints with this hotel...we NEVER waited more than one minute for the elevators, staff was helpful (especially Brian at the Conceirge Desk), hotel is close to everything (mall, excellent restaurants, highway and Metro station). We will definitely be back!

My partner and I booked this hotel for a last minute trip to the DC area to meet with clients. The rate was competitive for business travelers and in-line with other hotels offered with various packages via the booking site.

This hotel was quite nice in terms of amenities in keeping with a Westin; they had a great gym with excellent equipment which was clean and well appointed the machines were in good working order. Also helpful was the P.F Changs adjacent to the hotel entrance and quite a few shops and convenience stores within walking distance.

The staff at the hotel was generally sunny and bright and helpful when an extremely noisy family started getting out of control in the room next to ours, just moments after we called the front desk a bell person arrived to assist us and we were moved to another (much less noisy) room.

The only downside I saw from a business perspective is that it was a little far out from downtown; DC our cab ride into town ran about $50 which was fine for a one day in and out, but would really hurt if you had a series of appointments in Downtown. Otherwise, this was a very nice hotel for a short stay.

This hotel was very nice and convenient to where we needed to be. However, the maid service was very inconsistent. The night we got there our coffee maker had not been cleaned. They were not apologetic at all. They sent up more coffee and i guess it was expected for me to clean out the coffee grinds for the former hotel guest. Other times we would have coffee for one and a robe for one etc. Even though we had a suite with 4 people staying there. The lifeguard at the people was mean to the children and the parking attendants were very very rude to the person picking us up everyday. This is not meant to be a bad review because everyone else was very nice.

Although a little out of the way and a short drive from the main DC attractions (National Mall, museums and DC universities), this hotel was more than I expected for its price. The room was spacious and clean, the bed was very comfortable and had a well furnished bathroom (I've been around the world but this is the first one I ever been to with two shower heads in the bath). Parking is a bit expensive at the hotel, but a public parking a block away did the trick. The 'Ballston Shopping Mall' is right across the hotel, as well as a few good restaurants (one of my favorites, "P.F. Chang's", is right across the entrance to the hotel).
Moving around requires a private vehicle (rental or taxi) and DC is only 10-15 minutes away; Reagan National Airport is just 8-10 minutes.
I found it through an internet broker and was cheaper than the majority of hotels of its category around the airport, or in DC itself.
I would return to this hotel if I ever visit Washington again in the future.

First, the bed, pillows, linens were outstanding. Very restful and comfortable. The room was quiet. No noise from the streets or hallways. The service staff kindly observed the do not disturb sign. Great flat screen tv.
Valet parking was expensive and unfriendly. The woman at the garage level parking desk/window sure was harsh.
The young man at concierge was the total opposite, helpful and friendly.
The young woman at check in was slow and showed little interest in her work.
Walking distance to numerous stores, restaurants, the Metro, etc. The "Hunan Gate" Chinese restaurant down the street was really good.
So some ups and downs, but overall, the quality of the room gets great marks.
