We were visiting from out of state and wanted a memorable dinner and earlier reviews piqued my interest enough to leave Washington DC during rush hour traffic. The Carlyle is part of the Great American Restaurant group. Our experience did not disappoint us from the onset till we left. They do not take reservations so we arrived early and had the undivided attention of our servers asking many questions about the menu which if you do, then most of the time you will not be disappointed. This is not the place to order fries or the normal side offerings. Venture out and try something different.
Others have written about the decor and atmosphere and it was as they described. I will add that the Murano green chandeliers lent an air of festivity.
The menu offered creative and interesting combinations which should satisfy the more discriminating. We shared and savored, and recommend the steamed lobster pot stickers in the lobster ginger sauce. Our entrees were the pecan crusted trout with chardonnay citrus sauce and the Grouper special. The restaurant will prepare your dish with the sauce or side from another menu item if that is your desire. So with the Grouper I chose the asparagus and the wonderful creamy cauliflower with lemon caper butter sauce. They were both delicious and the fish tender. If you have never tried mashed cauliflower this is the place to try it. No dessert for us, but the offerings looked very tempting.
I have already recommended this to our friends who live in Northern VA and would definitely do a repeat. We look forward to trying more restaurant offerings from the group, mainly Coastal Flats and Jackson's Mighty Fine Food.
