“Nice place No Pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2007

Quiet, clean, safe location. 5 minute walk to Courthouse Metro stop.
Helpful front desk staff. Comfortable room. Lots of nearby restaurants. "Ragtime" Bar/Restaurant next door has great happy hour
$2.50 Microbrew drafts, and on Tuesday's had $2.95 seafood appetizers. Only complaint was Hotel did not have a pool. We would have really appreciated a nice hot tub for our sore muscles after walking around DC all day. $10/day parking in the Hotel garage is a good deal for the area also. Would consider staying there again.

Apart from one minor glitch with the in-room movie system (and the patronizing twit that tried to 'help' fix it), I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and comfortable, while the amenities were quite extensive (aside from the movies, it was possible to access Nintendo games, a CD jukebox and the internet through the TV; a good alarm clock/radio with an MP3 socket; fridge; microwave; coffe maker and very comfortable easy chair/ottoman). Although the breakfast was a little expensive ($12.50 plus tax) there was a good selection, and my one room service order was comparitively cheap and very tasty. The 'Pavillion Pantry', selling a range of foodstuffs, toiletries etc, was a bonus, particularly for picking up a nice cold drink at the end of a long day. Also, staff (with the exception of the movie guy mentioned above!) were polite and efficient at all times.

Location-wise, the hotel couldn't be better. The Metro, which will take you quickly and cheaply to anywhere in DC and the surrounding area that you might want to go to, is only a few minutes walk away and really is the best Metro system I've ever travelled on - as someone who would normally avoid going underground at all costs, that really is a big compliment. Having said that, if you've any vertigo issues then I'd recommend using the elevators, as the escalators at some stations (particularly the Woodley Park stop, generally used for the wonderful zoo) are scarily high and really do seem to go on forever! There's also a 24-hour CVS right by the Metro to serve almost all of your needs, and a number of nice bars/restaurants too (try 'Ragtime', right next door to the hotel, for a great bar menu).

Visiting DC can be ridiculously expensive when it comes to finding decent accommodation in a nice area, which is why on my last two visits I've chosen a hotel in Arlington. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course of action, and particularly this hotel, to others as it really does seem to strike the perfect balance between quality, cost and access to all the sights.

Spent four days here on a vacation to see Washington DC. I got a great rate on this hotel ($100) which is well under the rack rate.

Overall, an excellent stay here. As you'd expect for this chain, the rooms were large, well equiped and clean. In addition, this hotel is in a good location for getting to DC, with a metro station about a block away (diagonally across a parking lot & occasional market area). Desk staff were very friendly. The business services were excellent: free wireless, free faxing, copying and printing (including printing from your room with ability to collect later). While this was a vacation, I was closing on a home at the same time and the fax, printer and copier were a lifesaver to completing my home loan and purchase.

Did not eat breakfast, but did have dinner here (very good, slightly expensive as you'd expect from a hotel). The lobby had a small store - geat for purchasing single serving washing powder to do laundry in the on-site laundry rooms.

A few restaurants in walking distance, or take the subway somewhere more active. I ate at a Thai restaurant near the subway station and it was excellent (I forget the name, though). I did not have a car, but that was no problem getting around. Area felt very safe at night.

I stayed here with my parents for 3 nights, on their first visit to the US. The hotel represents great value for money; it was much cheaper than other similar class hotels as it is out of the main centre of Washington in more of a business district. However it is less than 5 minutes walk to the courthouse metro stop and only 4/5 stops to the main attractions. There are some shops, bars and restaurants within walking distance as well.

I only had 2 small complaints; the first was not being able to dial an outside number from the phone (probably due to a fault), which was an inconvenience. Secondly was the noise of the air conditioning/heating unit - fortunately the weather was such that we could turn it off overnight as I would not have been able to sleep with it cutting in and out.

The breakfast was great value for money, a good selection, hot and cold including healthy options such as fruit and porridge oats. Complimentary cookies and fruit were also available at the front desk, which was a nice touch.

This hotel had the absolute worst and most incompitent staff ever. We booked rooms plenty in advance and prepaid them as well. We even called to confim all prepay info and canceled one of our night a full 2 weeks in advance. When our traveler showed up- they hadn't canceled our room for the pervious night, causing us to have to pay for a night we didn't use, and causing the hotel to cancel our reservation for the day we arrived. Since the hotel was booked solid , our traveler then had no where to stay. We managed to get a room there for the next night, at an astronomical rate for a crappy hotel. When all was said and done, the manger Laurie was rude and unprofessional, and charged the wrong credit card for our stay. Don't be fooled- this hotel and it's staff- is terrible!!!!

I had a hard time finding a hotel in my travel allowance in Arlington that wasn't a motel 6. Considering my other options were in the $240+ range, I was very impressed by this HGI for the price. Its pretty much your basic HGI, but well kept up, and the staff seemed very friendly - liked they wanted to be there. Its about a block from the Courthouse metro station with a movie theater, shops, and restaurants. Its a short (and cheap) ride on the metro from Reagan airport, so no need to rent a car.

Don't book from Orbitz, I've had them not make the reservation, not bother to notify me, and refuse to do anything about it.

We recently stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Arlington and enjoyed our stay. I had booked a room with two queen beds on the Hilton website. However, when we arrived at the hotel, the woman at the reception desk explained that all two bed rooms were booked. She explained that they had many king-bedded rooms, but I said that was unacceptable. Eventually she came up with a solution, we would recive a junior suite with one king bed and a pull-out couch. She mentioned that because of our inconvenience, our rate of $119/night would be honored for this room. The room was actually very large, with a big-screen TV, king size bed in a sort of alcove, and pull-out couch that was at best a 3/4 bed. Housekeeping did an excellent job since the room was spotless. By the door was a cabinet containing a coffeemaker, microwave and minifridge. Off in the living area was a larger wetbar with granite countertop and sink.

The hotel seemed to make a big deal over their "Full American Breakfast Buffet" in the Great American Grill restaurant on the first floor. Frankly, it left much to be desired. The buffet was $12.95 per person plus tax and included the standard coffee, juice, eggs, waffles, bagels, cereal and some pastries. Compared to the complimentary breakfast that we had enjoyed at the Embassy Suites in DC, this one was very disappointing. The next two mornings we ate breakfast elsewhere. In the evenings, the front desk offered complimtentary fruit and fresh baked cookies.

The Hilton Garden Inn is located diagonally across a parking lot from the Washington Metrorail "Court House" station on the Orange Line. The area is very safe due to large number of Government Office Buildings. The parking lot is home to a farmers market that is very popular, even in a Saturday in January. Overall, this is a very good hotel at a reasonable price, just look elsewhere for breakfast options.
