“Great presenter of 20th century theater”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013 via mobile

American Century does a great service to American theater that you don't often see...resurrecting plays that rarely, if ever, are performed regularly. I've seen a really interesting version of On the Waterfront, an excellent Visit to a Small Planet and Little Murders, and a staged reading of Abe Lincoln in Illinois, plus many more. Price of regular tickets are a bit steep for this theater, but we watch for Pay What You Can nights and Groupon discount tickets. I recommend the venue for an interesting and entertaining performance.

“Nice theater, but bad show”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The theater building and management was very professional and as we love community type theater environments we were excited to see a play there, especially having come from NC to see the play and visit family. The theater environment was excellent, however, the play was not well produced and directed, so the high ticket costs gave us concern. We're happy to support the arts with our money, but alI we saw was a confused and stunned audience at intermission, which is when we had to leave. We may try it again another time.

“Hidden Gem -- American Century focuses on "neglected" 20th century plays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

This theater operates out of a stage attached to a middle school in Arlington, Virginia! However, I have been to several plays here over the last year and find that the performances, staging, lighting, sound, etc. are always top-notch! This black box theater provides lots of flexibility in seating and staging.

The plays I have seen here include Jules Feiffer's Little Murders, Visit to a Small Planet, Stage Door, Beyond the Horizon, and Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter. Few theaters are performing such interesting plays at such consistent quality.

Check out the schedule -- it always includes some pay what you can days -- for what is coming up in 2012! Website = http://www.americancentury.org/index.php

Parking is right outside the theater, which is behind a Giant on Glebe Road; the website has directions
