“Love the Hamptons”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2009

A nice and clean hotel. Beds are very comfortable especially after walking all day in D.C. The hotel is conveniently located - close to Reagan National Airport and only two blocks to the Crystal City Metro. There is a shuttle from the airport. The shuttle will also take you to the Metro.

Breakfast was ok. It was kind of a strange combination. Carb overload!

They also have a little reception that I think starts around 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. w/ free drinks and appetizers.

We have never had a bad experience at a Hampton Inn. Would stay here again for sure!

We just spent one night here with 2 small kids. The room was clean, typical hotel room size and the overall hotel is well kept. The breakfast the next day was just what you would expect for a continental breakfast. The location is a short walk to the train and a short train ride to Arlington National Cemetery, which we visited while here. The parking is underground and the area is safe with lots of options for eating. We would stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel with my wife for a short vacation prior to a conference in the Crystal City area. We found this hotel to be simply wonderful, especially for the price as compared to other hotels in this area. It is a short, short walk to the Metro Rail if you want to use rail from the airport. However, Hampton Inn has a shuttle between the hotel and airport and it is very convenient and prompt. It will also take you to other destinations in the area if needed. The hotel was very clean and well appointed. The business center and the wireless internet are free! Breakfast is free too and is more than adequate for most tastes. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

We used the rail to visit all of the tourist spots in DC and used it to visit area shopping. Be warned that the Crystal City Shops seem to cater to the business crowd. You won't find much open on the weekends. There are a lot of good restaurants on 23rd street and on Crystal Drive though.

All in all I have no complaints whatsoever. This would be a good place to stay both for business or vacation.

My wife and I took a trip to DC in late April-early May, with something planned for almost every minute of every day - we wanted to see it all! So when we were picking a hotel, it didn't need to be really fancy. Location and price were the key points, and the Hampton Inn came through for us very well.

Apparently price is a relative thing in DC, because this was a good deal at $139 on the weekend/$219 during the week. A little more than I expected, but looking at the other hotels in the area, it was quite reasonable. Location was FANTASTIC - two blocks to the Metro and you can be anywhere in DC in minutes. For us, proximity to the Metro was probably the key to our trip being such a success, so I can't really overstate how much we liked the location.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. We arrived early in the day, so I assumed we'd drop our bags at the desk and check in later. Not so! The person at the check-in desk got us our room at 11 AM, 4 hours before "official" check-in, no problem at all. Then we had a bit of an odd situation where we had made one reservation for the first night and a separate one for the rest of the week, due to a slight timing change in our plans. The hotel staff was great about that, too, and let us keep our same room with no trouble.

The room itself was very nice. We got a queen suite on the third floor, which was far more spacious than we ever needed (we were out and about most of the time). There was a separate seating area with couch, chairs and table, in addition to the typical bed/bath/etc areas. Everything was very clean, A/C worked perfectly, and the minfridge was very handy for leftovers. Nothing spectacular, but it was a nice place for our downtime.

The complimentary breakfast was very hit-or-miss. Most all of the hot items were subpar, but our last morning there were egg bagel pizza thingys which were much better. And the other days we were able to fill the gaps with fruit/cereal/giant muffins/etc. But it's free, so I can't complain too much.

We made use of the business center a few times to check our reservations for dinners or sightseeing, so that was pretty handy. We also went to the pool once, and it was nice. It was the first hotel pool I've been to with a lifeguard on duty (maybe a DC area rule?) which was a little strange when you're the only people in the pool. No hot tub, but not a big deal since we weren't just hanging around the hotel.

The Hampton Inn worked really well for us since we used it as a base of operations for visiting DC, Arlington and Alexandria. Like I said earlier, the absolute most important thing for us was being close to a Metro station for a reasonable rate and I think the Hampton Inn does a great job on that. It's not a super luxurious hotel, but unless you're really picky, I definitely recommend it.

We stayed 5 nights in a spacious suite on the 7th floor of this friendly, well-appointed, CLEAN hotel which is located just outside the District of Columbia in Crystal City, Virginia. We booked our room directly on the hotel's web site, receiving three nights for $139 per night and two nights for $219 per night. Considering that our visit coincided with the heavily-attended Cherry Blossom festival, we felt that the rates were quite fair and competitive.

The property has a brand-new appearance. The best feature, though, is its close proximity to the Metro; we parked our car in the hotel's underground garage ($12 per day-- a reasonable price) and never took it out until the day we left. The Metro is an easy 2-block walk north up Eads Street from the hotel's rear entrance... then cross under the overpass to your right at 18th Street and there's the Crystal City Metro station on your left. We used the Metro or the bus to go everywhere we wanted. We could not imagine a visitor in an automobile trying to navigate the DC traffic and endlessly changing maze of circles and diagonal streets, not to mention the standstill rush-hours.

The complimentary breakfast is copious, served in a large comfortable room which reminded me of a university library reading room... high ceilings, nice upholstered chairs, solid tables. The hot breakfast items weren't my favorite (biscuits with sausage gravy, chorizo scrambled eggs), but there's a nice variety of fresh fruit, yogurts, bagels, muffins, breads, juices, and three grades of coffee, including a satisfying "robust.".

We never used the pool or the fitness room but noticed that many guests did. Just a two-block walk south on Eads Street takes you to 23rd Street, where there is a wide choice of ethnic dining places. We ate twice at Cafe Pizzaiolo, where the servers and the quality of the food were outstanding... but at a modest price. We never used the kitchen area of our suite, but it was spacious and modern, with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker... certainly would be handy for a family making in-room snacks or for people who would like to save a few dollars by preparing microwave meals in the room, stocking in their own wine and beverages, etc.

We would consider no other place to stay when we return to Washington.

An inside tip: when taking the Metro to the National Museum of American History, it's more convenient to use the Federal Triangle station than the Smithsonian station. The latter is always clogged with tourists, and on one Sunday, when the cherry blossom festival was in full swing, there was a line of probably 200 people on the Mall just WAITING to take the escalator down into the Smithsonian metro station. At the Federal Triangle station, which to us seemed much closer, there were no crowds at all.

We stayed in a Suite at the Hampton Inn and loved it. Very comfortable beds, separate sitting area, refrigerator, microwave, irons, and all kinds of amenities. Although many people were staying at hotel (as witnessed at breakfast in mornings), it was quiet in the rooms. This hotel is a great choice.

Note: This was our first trip to D.C. and I'm glad we read reviews at tripadvisor and decided to stay in Crystal City. As you will read in other reviews, it is very easy to get to Metro station (about 2 streets over) and you can catch the rail in either direction about every 15 minutes. I am so glad we decided not to drive a car while in D.C. We bought a SmarTrip card at the Commuter Store in the Crystal Underground which made using metro even easier and would definitely do again.

This is a very fresh, updated Hampton Inn. We have stayed here several times over the years and have always been very impressed. The rooms are clean, well-appointed, and quiet, though not large. The bed is comfortable, and the bathroom is spacious and nice.

The breakfast, as at all Hampton Inns, is good considering it is free. There is a large TV and plenty of seating; it can get more crowded when a convention is in town.

The staff has always been very friendly and professional during our stays. There is a free shuttle to Reagan National Airport although it does not always run on a schedule.

The metro is a long 5 minute walk - I have walked between the hotel and the Metro stop a dozen times at all hours of day and night and always have felt safe, even with my family. The ride into the convention Center is about 20 minutes.

The value for the money is excellent. We never stay in DC any more because the prices are just too high; we stay in Arlington and take the metro to whatever convention or other event we are going for.
