“Great location, excellent stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2009

Hotel exceeded our expectations. We took the redeye to DC and the hotel shuttle picked us up at the airport (small van runs every 15 minutes between the 2 Marriott hotels and the airport - another group had to wait for the next pickup). We were able to check in early. King bed room was very nice: ample sized, comfy bed, flat screen tv, clean bathroom. Hotel toiletries nice Bath and Body Works but wish the hotel provided robes in room. Additional cons: pricey internet and no in-room refrigerator and safe. Hotel, however, was fabulously "smoke-free" and modern decor. Metro stop short walk via underground walkways and shopping alleys. A Rite-Aid, market, and Dunkin Donuts were very handy on way. National mall was 5 stops away. Location was the best. Always friendly hotel staff accomodated late check out for us, free computer to print out boarding passes, and free shuttle took us to airport.

Never in my wildest dreams could I ever imagine a Marriott hotel to be so unfriendly and unsympathetic after giving three of my family food poisoning on their first day with the hotel. Our first two days was supposed to include free breakfast for two people and boy if I could turn back time I would tell them to keep it! The food poisoning was so bad we had to take my son to the hospital on a Sunday evening where he was diagnosed with food poisoning and had to take fluids via an IV ( with a $455.00 medical bill). They took a "report" (refused to give us a copy) and when their "representatives" contacted us were only interested in protecting the hotel. They treated us like we were the criminals and they were the ones wronged. It was some experience- and all at $254.00 plus tax a night (Monday-Thursday) for a average at-best hotel room!
Stay clear of this hotel- at the risk of your health!

Myself and partner recently spent one night at this hotel, during the Cherry Blossom Festival. We were meeting other family members in DC for sightseeing and dinner. The hotel is connected to a shopping and business complex and the Crystal City metro station , just a few stops away from the center of DC on the Yellow metro line. Check in was quick and courteous. The room was very nice, with comfy bed and great laptop hook up or wireless connection. Only drawback was that on Sunday Morning the line for the breakfast restaurant was very long and we did not have the time to wait. We ended up checking out and eating elsewhere. I am guessing that they were busier then normal due to the Cherry Blossom Festival. Only other option was a Starbuck's kiosk. Over all we were happy with this hotel and would stay there again.

We stayed two nights - got a great last minute airfare and hotel package deal for Cherry Blossom weekend on Travelocity. Hotel is lavish looking, much nicer than our normal budget gets us. Pluses: easy access to Crystal City Metro, either outdoors or via direct underground Crystal City shoppes access. Free airport shuttle and very short ride from Reagan airport (also probably easy via Metro). Lovely room, with two comfortable chairs, good lighting for reading either in bed or chair, very clean, roomy bathroom, very comfortable mattresses and pillows, very quiet for sleeping, with good drapes to block light. Our only small complaints were high price of wifi ($13 per 24 hours, charged noon to noon), no safe in the room (safe deposit boxes available free at desk but this was too much of a hassle for us, so we ended up carrying laptop with us all the time), and the (unfortunately increasingly popular with high-end hotels) bedding that provides only a sheet and a comforter on the bed. The comforter kept us too hot even when we turned the thermostat down, but a sheet alone was not warm enough. The 'bedspread' thing was only half the length of the bed so could not be used as a blanket, as it only covered half of a body's length. Also, the lines for breakfast at the hotel restaurant were long, as were the lines at the Starbucks in the lobby and the Dunkin Donuts in the Crystal City Shoppes nearby. The hotel did provide a good map of area eateries, so we walked a bit to find a good breakfast choice. Also found many great dinner options on 23rd street (shown on the map) - had great upscale pizza and gelato at Cafe Pizzaiola.

We inadvertently left some clothing in the room's closet when we checked out. The woman in the Lost and Found department went out of her way to track our stuff down that evening so we could retrieve it on our way to the airport. So I give high marks for effort, honesty and service.

I stayed at the Crystal Gateway Marriott for four nights. The room was lovely, and the hotel service was great. I really enjoyed the workout room, pool and hot tub. The business center offered free internet access to print airline boarding passes, although other internet access was pricey. I LOVED the location with quick access to the Crystal City metro stop. Since it was cold and rainy during my stay, the ability to use the underground tunnels to access restaurants and shops was fabulous. I would definitely stay here again!

My meeting was in Crystal City, so this hotel's location worked out great. From the cavernous hotel lobby, you can walk directly into the underground passageways and shops under Crystal City and it is about a block (underground) from the Crystal City Metro stop (another plus). All the rooms had been recently renovated; new furniture, carpeting, flat-screen TVs, high-end linens, etc. Spotless. Be sure to ask for a room on the Eads Street side; the other side overlooks Jefferson Davis Highway (Route 1) and was very noisy, so I had to switch rooms. Parking is steep at $19.00 a day and the breakfast buffet was also steep at $16.00; there are several alternatives in the Crystal City shops. The staff is friendly and helpful, which is always a plus. Overall, a very pleasant and convenient stay.

  • Liked — Recently renovated with high quality furnishings.
  • Disliked — Noisy highway on one side; lobby can be drafty in winter.

Another nice at a Marriott property. This hotel is close to National Airport and there are quite a few retail establishments within walking distance. The room is clean and the service personnel friendly.
