“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Came to DC with my nephews and wanted a reasonably priced accommodation yet clean and within easy walking distance to the Metro. This place fit the bill to a tee. The staff was very friendly, walking to the Metro was a breeze at about a block in a half to 2 blocks away. My room had a beautiful view of the river and Georgetown. The room was actually larger than I had anticipated with its 2 beds and had 2 sinks in the room, one in the bathroom and one outside the bathroom door. The room was clean and well maintained. While I had read and was concerned about other reviews mentioning the airplane noise prior to arriving, it turned out the noise level was no different than other hotels I stay at in busy metro areas. Slept very well and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor if you are concerned about traffic noise.

Comparing notes with other business travelers I was with (who stayed at different hotels), the overall value was better here than the surrounding hotels.

The room was VERY clean - after noticing the fixtures in the bathroom were without dust, checked the top of several mirrors and such - all clean! Bed was excellent, with the usual choice of pillows at HI.

The top floor is a restaurant (I had only the breakfast), and a quick walk across Key Bridge to Georgetown for many dining and activity options.

Running in the area around the airport was easy - the bridge makes for a good uninterrupted stretch, as do the park and canal on the other side (in Georgetown).

Free parking in the hotel's garage. Check in took a while, but we were happy with the room when we got there. Location is close to shops and subway. We didn't feel unsafe walking around at night after taking the train from DC. Overall good value and location for the price. We would stay there again when we visit DC.

Very convenient to Rosslyn Metro. $65 Dulles Airport fare. Easy walk/bus to Georgetown restaurants and those on Wilson. 17th-floor breakfast buffet, restaurant and medium-sized bar. Breakfast has standard American fare with bulk scrambled eggs, greasy bacon & sausage, tasty orange juice, cerials, some fruit/yoghurt, and breads. Good view of river. Lots of tourists but fewer tour groups than the Marriott nearby. Medium-speed elevators. Lobby with TV displays for local weather and news.

13th-floor room with comfortable king bed. Pillows all stiff, including the ones labeled "soft". Requested feather pillows but no response. Functional Air Conditioning. Beige wallpaper and green patterned carpet. Writing desk with lamp, telephone but no hardwired Internet. Free WiFi with speeds about 1 Mbps. 47-ince Phillips flatscreen TV with 90 cable channels: no pay movies, no international news stations, standard American cable fare with constant commercials. Alarm clock radio. Black-and-white framed prints of DC area. Mini-fridge. Arm chair. Closset with 12 hangers, safe large enough for laptop, iron, and board. Ante-room with sink. Small bathroom with very narrow shower/tub (sliding door handles and large wall handle restrict shower movement). Beige floor tile and walls with discolored white shower stall.
Location on noisy North Fort Myer Drive is a major problem. Poor soundproofing on windows results in traffic noise disturbance in room at both late night and early morning. All rooms appear to have this affliction.
Staff is friendly enough and price/value appears to be acceptable for both American and foreign visitors. Would not recommend for business customers given adjacent (but tired) Marriott and (more quiet) Le Meridien hotels.

Room Tip: Seek a room without windows.

I have rarely stayed at a hotel which I felt delivered such exceptionally good value in its market as the Holiday Inn Rosslyn. If you are traveling to Washington for sightseeing (as we were), or for business (and don’t enjoy an unlimited expense account), or are visiting Georgetown University (a short walk across the Potomac), I most strongly recommend you give this hotel your consideration.

The HI delivers the following at a VERY moderate price for the DC area (my stay averaged $147/night including taxes): outstanding proximity to a major Metro station (by far the best way to get around town, even though taxi service in DC may be good); relatively easy highway access; free indoor parking with direct access to the lobby and elevators (so it’s easy to handle your luggage yourself); a very adequate restaurant on the top (17th) floor with great views, excellent service, and convenient serving hours; and a decent indoor pool and exercise area.

I expected many of these features and booked a room because of them, but I was pleasantly surprised by: how well-staffed, friendly and helpful the front desk was; being called by the front desk after we had settled in our room to make sure everything was to our liking; a great view over the Potomac towards Georgetown from our room on the hotel’s north side; a balcony to further enjoy the view; and an unusually large in-room safe (I love those things!)

Our room was very well-equipped, well-maintained and clean, and extremely comfortable. Furnishings included a work desk with chair, a comfortable reading chair and side-table, a large flat screen TV with numerous channels (including four or five HBO options), and a refrigerator. Each full-size bed had four pillows (two ‘soft’ and two ‘firm’, marked accordingly). Room temperature control was noise-free. There was a second sink in an alcove outside the bathroom. The bathroom itself was a little dated but adequate; strangely there was no overhead fan. The room did not include a hair dryer but I’m confident the front desk would provide one if needed. WiFi internet connection was excellent and fast.

While there is no free breakfast, most guests appear to take advantage of the breakfast offerings at the restaurant (the Vantage Point). Some guests apparently had coupons for free breakfasts but we did not. The buffet was maybe a little pricey ($15) for what was offered but so convenient I was happy with it. Dinner selections at the restaurant were OK, and a wide range of entrée prices was available. While I would not rate the cuisine as innovative or gourmet, it was satisfactorily prepared, and I was happy to eat there each night for the convenience and the view.

Rest assured that the proximity to the Metro really is excellent, a short block and a half away on the same street. Trains are frequent and the trip to the Smithsonian station takes just a few minutes. If you want to stretch your legs and walk to the main Capitol attractions (or Arlington Cemetery) you can do so, the Mall is only perhaps 2-3 miles away and the bridges have pedestrian access.

I was delighted with this hotel and will almost certainly stay there on my next visit to DC.

If you want to see Washington DC without paying $200/night for a room, then set your sights right across the river on the Holiday Inn Rosslyn @ Key Bridge. It's located in nearby Arlington, VA, only 1 Metro stop away from the District. You can even walk across the Key Bridge to enjoy some nightlife in Georgetown.

This was our first time here. The room we stayed in was clean and more than adequate. Front Desk service was friendly, and there is convenient FREE parking for your car (a $30/day value).

After reading other traveler recommendations, we asked for a room on a high floor with a view of the Potomac River. All rooms have a small balcony that you can walk out onto (don't if you fear heights) when you'd like to get some fresh air. That got us a comfy room on the 12th floor overlooking the river. Though traffic sounds are ever-present, the view of the river and the traffic flowing across the bridge is exciting. (Those who want a quieter stay can ask for a room on the non-river side). The room had a bathroom with two sinks: one inside near the toilet and one just outside, which is great when two (or more) people are sharing a room.

The restaurant on the top floor isn't anything special, but it's convenient if you want to get a quick bite or late dinner. A bit pricey, but the 17-th floor view is pleasant (though not too much more impressive than our 12th floor view).

Just one negative to report: The wireless Internet signal was far too weak from our room. One workaround is to go downstairs to the lobby for a better signal or use the iMacs in the business center.

Room Tip: Room with a river view is awesome but comes at the price of increased traffic noise (loud trucks and...

When I pay over $200 a night for a room I have pretty high expectations. This place didn't meet them. The room and the facility are plenty clean and the staff is nice enough, if you can find any who speak English. The room was the equivalent to a $75 a night economy motel room. The "full size" beds were about half-way between a twil and a real full size bed. The elevators did not work one morning, at least not fo rthe guests - seemed to work just fine for the staff to bring the maid's carts up to the floors (this building has 17 floors) but guests were not allowed on. Everyone who works there is from a foriegn country - the same country - no diversity (is that even legal?) No free things, food and coffee and other drinks were expensive. The only recommendation I can give is that the restaurant on the top floor is great with great staff and good food, again it is pricey. It is convient to Metro and Georgetown Univ. I guess maybe I am not accustomed to staying in a big city like this but I do expect more when I pay more. I won't stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view
