Owner description: The pre-Civil War residence of legendary Confederate general Robert E. Lee, this Greek revival mansion was taken over by Union troops, and the estate was used to bury the war dead. Overlooking the Potomac and the grounds of what is now Arlington National Cemetery, the home has been restored as a memorial to Lee.

“Spectacular view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013

It is the highest point of Cemetery. The view is spectacular looking down downtown. You can also see Pentagon Bldg from there.

“I am glad to see they are restoring it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

The view from the porch is just gorgeous. The home is being restored and it is just a gorgeous example of Antebellum architecture. Beautiful.

“Not open to the public”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

An historic sight that we did not get off the shuttle to explore, as the inside is not open to the public.

“Beautiful house with an even better view of DC.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

PROS: beautiful house on top of the hill; resplendent gardens surrounding the house; this is a must-see stop while riding the tram in Arlington National Cemetery. You will be touched by the story of how this property which was owned by Robert Lee and George Washington's step-granddaughter was confiscated from them during the civil war. Dont forget to take sweeping high altitude views of downtown D.C. This house is easily seen from the Lincoln Memorial.

CONS: miniscule museum about Robert E Lee in a small structure in the back of his old mansion in his old property .

“Somewhat Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Our tour of Arlington Cemetery included a stop a the Arlington House, but it was closed for renovations. We walked around the house anyway. The house is located at the top of a hill, which provides a fantastic view of Washington D.C.
