“Looks interesting, but in a weird location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

Just like the Marine Corps Memorial, this memorial is in a strange location. It is sandwiched between the highway and the Pentagon. I was thinking that it would be easier to access and be in a more visible location.

“Soaring prongs that inspire, but human sculptures leave something to be desired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

This is one of the newest monuments in the Washington DC area just off Arlington Cemetary. You can't miss it because it has three tall stainless steel curved prongs about 100 or so fee high that stick up out of a plaza set on the top of a hill overlooking the Pentagon. The spires represent the contrails of the Blue Angles precision flying team when they accelerate vertically into the sky in close formation and then curve off into different directions. A truly fitting memorial to those who have served in the airforce in my view. Not very well known yet, it is a great place for some peace and quiet and great views of the Pentagon and across the Potomac to DC. I approve of the "green" parking area which puts down pavers with spaces between them so grass can grow up and water can drain. Although I like human figure bronzes as well as the next person, the presence of a bronze honor guard of Air Force men really seems out of place and strongly detracts from what would be otherwise a very thought provoking memorial. Why people feel a need to include statues of people when it is clear this is a memorial for heroes from this service is beyond me. All it does is interfere with your internal visualization of the loved one you knew (who does not look like these men) or the way they were (not the static, stiff pose at attention of these statues. Oh, one more thing, this is one of the best places to see the DC 4th of July fireworks (way better than Iwo Jima which has large highway lights above the freeway cluttering the view).

“Breathtaking monument”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Before this visit, I didn't even know it existed. I had seen it from the highway when traveling through Washington, but I thought it was a 9-11 memorial/monument. This monument was a stop on a bus tour we took. Up close it was a very unique and breathtaking monument. It truly honors those of the Air Force who have given their lives. The symbolism of the design and layout of the monument is very meaningful. This monument is not within walking distance to the mall and other attractions, but definitely worth the short drive to see it.

“Very unique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I thought this memorial was setup very well and gives a great view into our Air Force. The spires give you great photo opportunities either up close or from a distance. I took some from the frosted glass so it appears the jets are flying through them. I have an uncle who served in the Air Force and I do wish I could take him there.

This memorial is easy to get to, great parking for busses, wonderful views, and easy to navigate. There are also good bathrooms.
