“After 90 days, I still recommend it.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

My wife and I stayed here from July to Oct 2012. Our daughter lives 2 blocks from here and was undergoing chemotherapy and we maintained a room here on a nearly permanent basis during that time.

Here's the short take: Not fancy. Reasonably clean and decently furnished. The employees were usually polite and once aquainted with me, they were friendly and helpful. This being across the river from the nation's capitol, I was surprised by that. It's close to the Metro (a biggie) and Reagan Airport (another plus). The cost? Excellent. I will stay here everytime I'm back in the future.

Plenty of parking at the Hotel and you are within easy walking distance of a large (read expensive) shopping area called Pentagon Row. Lots of good eats over that way also.

Note: If your network connection is important, see tip.

Room Tip: Tip: The internet emitters are located at each end of the guest floors. The closer to the middle t...

Was here for Giants game Dec 2,3 and chose the Americana purely for price and location to the Metro and DCA Airport.
Unpretentious hotel where everything works - WI-FI , shower etc. If being in Arlington is neccessary and you don't plan on spending much time in your room - the Americana is fine.

Note; 'Juan' the maintenance man was both handy and very nice to deal with.

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write a review! We're glad you were able to enjoy our great value and convenient location, and will be sure to pass along your compliments to our entire team, especially Juan.

Since you ranked us only "average" compared to similar limited-service budget hotels, we would really appreciate hearing from you on what we could do to be among the best of affordable lodging options--we're always looking for ways to improve!

Thanks again, and we hope you can join us in 2013 as we celebrate 50 years of clean, comfortable, convenient, affordable, and friendly accommodations for D.C. travelers!

Warmest Regards,

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

We stayed in November and were picked up promptly by the shuttle from the airport. The room we booked had been given away but they quickly upgraded us to a renovated King room with no fuss. The room was clean, bed comfortable, bathroom dated but we knew all this when we booked.

We stayed here 4 nights for less than the price of 1 night in Singapore on the way home. So it really is a bargain. Close to the metro and restaurants on 23rd St where we had a couple of really good meals. The breakfast items of muffins & bagels aren't our usual fare but fruit and cereal were available along with coffee, tea and juice.

We found the staff polite but not overly friendly, I think it's nice to be greeted when we come back in after a day out but most times we were ignored. They just didn't seem to want to engage and us Aussies are a friendly lot.

Would we stay again? - You bet!

We just got home from another great trip to DC and motel accomodations at Americiana Hotel. This is our 4th stay with them and have always been very satisfied. The staff is the best. The shuttle drivers are very accomodating. You can't beat their rates. We stayed 4 nights for what we would of paid for 2 elsewheres. We arrived at 1:30 in the afternoon and they let us check in early. We spend the day in Washington and get back to the room at the end of the day and just want to relax so we do not miss all the frills the other places offer. They are in the process of renovating the rooms one at a time. We saw the workers there daily but were not disturbed by the repair noise. It is so nice to have your car parked on site for free and you can have it accessible at all times. A comment was made about having to take a dirt path to the Metro. There is one which cuts off a few minutes walk, but you can also walk the sidewalk which is a nice stroll.

The hotel is in a good location and it's easy to get to the metro from the hotel. Stayed here for the Marine Corps Marathon weekend. The room was not renovated as was stated on the website. We ended up booking an extra night because we were supposed to fly out Monday but because of Sandy all flights were canceled and we ended up leaving early on a bus, meaning we lost money for that extra night. I understand the policy but it would have been nice to have some understanding.
No frills but it's close by to a lot of things and worked for my mum and I for a stay for the weekend. I might stay here again.

Thank you for staying with us during the Marine Corps Marathon and for writing a review. We are glad to hear you enjoyed our value and location and apologize for any confusion regarding our standard (traditional) and deluxe (contemporary) rooms. For future reference, if you book a deluxe room, please be sure to let the front desk know if you aren't assigned one and we'll do our best to remedy the situation. Regarding the final night's room charge, unfortunately if a room is reserved and/or we clean it as a stay-over, we aren't able to rent the room that night, which is why we unfortunately have to charge guests who reserve another night or stay past check-out at 11am. Being travelers also and not just hoteliers, we do understand the frustration of having to pay for something only minimally (or not at all) used, which is why we offer so many free amenities and try to be flexible as much as possible without compromising the viability of our business. We sincerely hope you understand and that you'll consider us again the next time you're in the Washington, D.C. area.

All the best,
Americana Hotel

I had a great experience at the Americana Hotel. It started off with a quick pickup from the airport. Don't let the looks of the Americana turn you away. It is an older hotel with dated furnishing. Beds were comfortable, room was clean. decent breakfast. You are close to metro. Will stay again.

Most importantly the hotel staff is helpful. I prepaid for a deluxe king (because I read reviews that they'd been renovated) but the room conditions didn't seem to match. I've read several reviews about this hotel having a retro theme and while I thoroughly enjoyed the pink tiled bathroom, in general its more dated than retro. The bathroom is clean and has a medicine cabinet for storing toiletries which some other reviewers did not notice (or may have been too young to look for). That said, the fixtures were dated, not kept the best condition (or replaced by similar pieces found at yard sales) and sadly the workmanship that would have made this retro was lacking and made it just seem less well kept up. Examples of the lack of workmanship would be layers of paint chipping around the light fixtures and hinges, a broken/absent lock on the sliding glass door to the balcony with no plant or other decorative fixture. Apparently the sliding glass doors had been purposefully made un-usable, almost renovated to make way for windows. I would have preferred a window to open for a bit of fresh air, but that was not an option unless I left the sliding glass door open. Alternatively there was an AC unit mounted on the wall. In November this was my heater and the source of any moving air. Unlike many hotels with dual curtains (blackout for sleeping and sheers for a little privacy with light); this is unfortunate because if the curtain is open the room is a fishbowl that overlooks the parking lot and the entrance into the next hotel's parking garage (or hotel rooms). I agree with other customers that the bed was comfortable, but the pillows were not (I didn't really care I just didn't use them) and finally the vanity space outside the bathroom was really just a marble slab with a light fixture. Given that the hair dryer was wall mounted in the bathroom it was less functional as a vanity.

Room Tip: Confirm that the room type selected and paid for was actually offered.

Thank you for staying at Americana Hotel and writing a review. It's nice to know you appreciated our helpful staff, and we'll be sure to let them know. We apologize for any confusion about our standard (traditional theme with bedspreads, currently on the 3rd and 4th floors) versus deluxe (contemporary theme with duvets and bed skirts, currently on the 1st and 2nd floors) rooms; in the future, if you have been inadvertently placed in the wrong room type, please let our front desk staff know so we can correct the error. We want our guests to be happy to stay with us and try to make it right if there's been a mistake. Thank you for the suggestions on the sheers; we are passing that along so maybe you'll see it if you stay with us again. We apologize that you didn't like our vanity areas. We've worked really hard on them, building them by hand and paying for expensive granite tops in the hopes that our guests would enjoy a beautiful mirrored space to get ready, but everyone's taste and expectations are different and we're sorry we did not meet yours. Sometimes we aren't the right hotel for people, being a very economical, limited service option in an area crowded with $200+ per night full-service hotels, and we understand that.

Thank you again and best wishes!
