“Clean and Affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

For the past 5 years, I have stayed at the Americana for as much as 3-4 months at a time while on business in Washington, DC. I have found the hotel to be clean, very affordable and ideally located near National Airport, the metro, and Washington, DC. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. It does not have amenities such as a pool, bar, or restaurant but its location and value make up for it. It is an old hotel but well kept up.Great value for the price.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Americana and couldn't have been happier with our experience there. Given the amazingly low price we paid, I know both my husband and I were slightly skeptical but the Americana had enough good reviews that we took a chance - and we're thrilled we did. We traveled with 2 children, ages 6 and 7, who loved the free breakfast every morning. My husband and I liked that as well as being very close to a Metro station and having no trouble finding it coming off the highways at almost midnight the night we arrived. The front desk staff were always very pleasant, friendly and helpful. After our first night, our room A/C wasn't working properly - not what we wanted to come back to after 95+ degree heat touring DC all day. Maintenance fixed it and it worked properly until 2-3 days later when it stopped working again. We let the front desk know this and headed out to dinner. When we came back, they let us know that the A/C unit couldn't be serviced and would have to replaced. He was very apologetic about this and said we could move rooms that night or the next morning. We quickly switched rooms and were comfy and cool the rest of our stay and happy that it had been dealt with and resolved quickly. We're admittedly no-frills travelers - give us a clean room in safe location and we're happy. We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to others interested in a great deal.

This is not the Ritz. It is clean, simple and every well priced. All the reviews complaining about how its straight out of the early 80's, well duh, its a budget hotel. If you want the newest stuff stay at the Hilton for $600 a night. This is a great deal. I like places that are efficient, simple, offer only what I need, are casual, and most of all, a bargain. If the place has character thats an added bonus. This place has a lot of character. Awesome hotel.

We stayed here the first week-end in July, and had an overal, good experience. It was a true bargin, clean, and comfortable. The bedding was new, including the mattresses. It had a recent update by the looks of things. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. Thank goodness for the Shuttle and it's happy-go-lucy driver. We had to change rooms due to a faulty air conditioner, and it was not an issue. If you are a "nose in the air" traveler, you will not appreciate the 1950's charm of the Americana. It is not a "spit polished" accommodation, but holds its own for value and comfort. It was also very quiet there. I would stay again in a heart beat.

Room Tip: They are one of may be three, if that, that have free parking on the premises You are with in walki...

Great Location, only a short walk from Crystal City Metro, DC being a mere 10 mins by train. Really comfortable rooms, great breakfast, very friendly helpful staff and best of all great prices. Why stay in DC and pay at least double?

Staff was helpful and very nice. Shuttle driver, Oscar, very nice - dropped us off/picked us up near restaurants near 23rd - very helpful with blistered feet! Comfy beds, cold air-conditioning, shower w/great pressure, 1 block from metro station and Crystal City shops, short 10-min walk to restaurants, breakfast and shuttle a nice bonus as was mini-fridge in room. Will be staying again and recommend to others...we need this hotel to stay open for a long time! Wi-fi spotty, previous guests in room had dropped bowl of Cheerios behind dresser that was missed during cleaning, and remote for tv not in room, but these were very minor in my opinion because we were only in the room to shower and sleep.

Stayed here for a week and it was close to the metro, the Pentagon City Mall, and was very comfortable. The beds were great, but the pillows were too small. The AC worked wonderfully!!! We were in a room that was not renovated so there was black mold in the shower. Hopefully once it is renovated, that will be taken care of. The WiFi worked but it was really slow. I was on the third floor so maybe that was why.

All in all, it was a great stay and met my needs. It was well priced, comfortable and for the most part very clean. The front desk was nice and the shuttle drivers are great! I will stay here again!

Room Tip: The higher up you go the weaker the WiFi. Try and get a room that is inside and not on the outside.
