“Kid Friendly and Convenient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2009

Stayed for 3 nights with 2 kids. Rooms were smallish, standard for this class hotel, but flat screen TV and very comfy beds were a plus. Minimal airport noise - it wasn't a nuisance at all. Front desk was hit-or-miss. Check-in was fast but no-frills: "Here's your key." Went back to front desk on 2nd day and was greeted much better and offered coloring books/crayons for kids, print-outs of local kid-friendly restaurants and even menus.
Breakfast buffet was nice, lots of the usual choices for hot or cold breakfast. Menu service on weekdays was OK too. For only $10 more/room we got all breakfasts included in room rate which was definitely worth it for us.
The pool was very nice for small children. We found it very warm, no "getting used to" the temperature. The lifeguard was very attentive to small children. Hot tub in the middle of the room was nice so that parents could soak while still being close to little ones.
Location was great for families - small shops, restaurants and metro accessible through the basement/underground were very convenient, one of the reasons we chose this hotel.
Decor was not great, just simple. Wireless internet only available in the lobby for free. Other than that and the smallish room size it was a good place at a reasonable price for a family to stay.

The bad: We stayed here for two nights, the 15th and 16th of January just prior to the inaguration. We chose the hotel because of the "heated pool". The pool was only heated to 82 degrees which if you do your homework you'll learn is NOT therapeutic for a person with Arthritis/fibromyalgia who has to swim in order to not be in pain. It caused more pain than good. Also, we were informed at the front desk breakfast would be until 10:30 and since I had driven 8.5 hours to get there and my friend who I roomed with flew in from the west coast, and we'd arrived late, we knew we would not be up until late for breakfast. Therefore, we got down there at 10:20 and learned we had missed breakfast. They slopped breakfast together for us at like $16.00/person. For what we paid for the hotel it was not value received. Also for what we paid, it did not even include wireless internet and parking was $20.00/day. The good: The staff was friendly as was one of the pool attendants from Peru as an exchange student. The workout facilities were also very nice and well-equipped and the sauna was nice. The beds were comfortable, though small for a hotel that is obviously trying to come off as an upper class operation. The best thing about this hotel was it's location. All you do is go to the basement to get to the metro and numerous restaurants. For that the location was a real plus, especially since it was below 0 frigid temperatures.

So, in a nutshell, if I'm going to pay over $100 a night for a room, I think the 1) There should be hi-speed internet, free good quality continental breakfast where you're not treated as though you're inconveniencing people to do their job. 2) King-sized beds if you are advertising yourself to be a first rate facility and 3) Turn the pool up...even 3 degrees higher would make ALL the difference in the world. I'm sorry I can't recommend this higher. In all fairness, I had stayed about 5 years ago in a Marriott who told me it was their policy to keep their pools too cold, and my friend still booked the room this time. I won't be staying in any more Marriotts, because they have a policy not conducive to physical health where their pool temperature is concerned.

  • Liked — It's location to the metro and restaurants
  • Disliked — The frigging cold pool because of being too cheap to heat it 3 degrees warmer.

By far the best part of this hotel is the fact that the ground floor connects to an underground tunnel system that leads you to a metro station (yellow and blue lines) and also to the crystal city mall. This is particularly helpful on snowy/rainy/cold days since you don't have to step outside to board a train, get breakfast, or have lunch/dinner!

High points: subway/mall access (can't emphasize this enough!), very comfy bed and pillows, HD tv channels and a couple free movie channels, roomy, 5 minute subway ride to tourist destinations.

Low pointys: staff was friendly but not very helpful...we found out about the tunnel system ourselves, also I asked for a map and was told they didn't have one of DC, yet the stand of brochures in the lobby contained multiple maps.

  • Liked — Access to metro and Crystal City Mall via warm underground tunnel!
  • Disliked — Price, Staff.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2008

I had the opportunity to take my family on a weekend trip to the Washington D.C. area. I usually prefer to rent a car for the freedom of having it when I travel. Since parking at the Smithsonian, or anywhere in the area is difficult, expensive, and time consuming, I decided to plan this trip without one.

The CC Marriott at Reagan Nat'l Airport met & exceeded those needs. Their free shuttle picked us up at DCA prompty, they circle from the hotel to the airport every 15 miuutes. From airport to the Marriott lobby takes about 2 minutes. We arrived at the hotel at about 10:30 AM, and were able to check in right away.
The room was spacious, well decorated, and spotlessly clean. The bathroom area was medium size, yet spacious enough and well stocked with the usual amenities.

The beds were comfortable, with the exception of the pillows, which we all found not as good as those at the Hilton Hotels. This is a very minor point, yet we all mentioned it to each other in conversation about the room itself.

The front desk personnel were business like and pleasant, and answered all our questions in detail.

Within minutes, we took the elevator to the lower level, which exits the hotel (without going outside), into the underground walkway/mall to the Metro Crystal City station, about a 2 minute walk - hotel lobby to train. The trip into Washington D.C. Smithsonian-Mall area takes about 10 minutes. It's all safe, pleasant and cost effective.

The hotel itself is quiet, and in an upscale business area, with numerous restaurants nearby. We booked the "full breakfast" at the hotel for all of us, and it was a good move. Full breakfast does not constitute the entire breakfast menu here, but it values to about a $13.50 each, with very generous portions, and no limits on the juice, coffee, etc. I recently had an entirely free breakfast at a Wolfgang Pucks at another hotel property not affiliated with Marriott. To use it as a benchmark, the breakfast quality, quantity, and the service at the Marriott, was considerably better.

We checked out and left our luggage with the bellman until the day was over and we had to gather it and return home. This location, and property is excellent, and I would return here again for sure.

  • Liked — Free airport pick up and return, metro accessibility, excellent hotel
  • Disliked — No Negatives of any magnitude

I stayed at this hotel just a few days ago with family. I am in the D.C. area often, usually staying in suite-style hotels in the $200 per night range. I decided to try staying just outside the city in Arlington, VA, for a more reasonable rate (weekend AAA) of around 95.00 and because the Metro station is right below. Also, the adjacent shops/restaurants in the Crystal City mall interested me. I've become tired of walking all over D.C. from my hotel for any little thing needed during my stay!

This hotel was perfect for my needs, as well as that of my family. The convenience to the Metro was just what we needed and we loved the access to the shops for a few groceries, toiletries and a nice choice of restaurants. The room was well maintained and the decor was very tasteful. The lobby was very attractive, especially at Christmas.

We especially loved the comfy beds and ample comforters. The concierge and front desk were very helpful, friendly and check-in took about 3 minutes and we were off to our room. The pool/jacuzzi/workout rooms and sauna were spacious and inviting. The hotel's staff right up to the pool attendent were all pleasant and offered assistance at every turn.

I can't say a bad thing about our experience, as it was flawless. I'll be back again and I hope it's soon!

  • Liked — Location, Decor, Cleanliness, Staff, Amenities, Pool, Comfortable Beds, Quiet
  • Disliked — The location of our room did not have a very nice view, but that was not a priority

Stayed 3 nights to attend a conference.

The hotel is part of the Crystal City complex. Everything is connected underground so you can get around even in inclement weather. The Crystal City Metro station is connected as well. Since I used the Metro during my stay, I did not use the free hotel shuttle to/from the Reagan airport. It was very convenient to hop on the Metro from the airport and the station is only a short walk underground to the hotel.

Check-in and check-out went smoothly and the staff was pleasant.

The room was clean and spacious, as expected for Marriott standards.

I used the gym a few times. It had a nice assortment of equipment.

The Crystal City complex has a wide variety of shops and restaurants. If you want more choices, just hop on the Metro and it will take you to just about anywhere in the D.C. area.

Overall, a nice stay and would definitely stay here again.

As we flew in to Dulles we were unable to take advantage of the hotels free shuttle bus from Reagan National, but found very polite service at check-in and the room was a lovely size. Food at the hotel was also lovely. Had a meal in the restaurant the first night and also took advantage of the breakfast buffet each morning. Would higly recommend the fresh waffles and the service from staff in the restaurant. It's easy to get into Washington each day as the Metro is located in the Crystal City Mall which you can get to by using the hotel lift. Only a couple of minor faults with the hotel. We lost our cable TV connection on the second day, and only had a few channels. No major deal as we were out most of the time, but we asked at reception a couple of times during our 5 day stay whether there was any chance this would be resolved and were continuously told that it should be sorted soon. Albeit to say it never was. I was also a little surpised that the internet connection for the hotel PC wasn't complimentary as two other US hotels I have stayed in have offered this as a complimentary service. We were also asked on check -in whether we wanted a shuttle to be booked for us on our return to the airport. Due to tiredness on check-in we asked whether we could arrange this nearer to the end of our stay. On the day before we left we asked to arrange this at reception and were dirrected to the bellboy, who then told us we would have to arrange this ourselves. These are all very minor things and didn't spoil our enjoyment of our stay here, but didn't feel that the reception staff went the extra mile that you would expect from the Marriott brand.

  • Liked — Very clean and lovely breakfasts
  • Disliked — Reception staff could have done a bit more to help
