“Some nice amenities, but a noisy place to stay right now”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Attending the NBS convention and have a very nice room. The bed is quite firm, perhaps a little firm for my taste, but comfortable enough. Nice bathroom if unusually cramped. Hot water right away is also a plus. Service is excellent. I was missing my TV remote and had another within a few minutes. Bus service is also good, though I did have to wait 30 minutes for my shuttle to get me at the airport. This is a busy town so I can't fault them too much on that, but the hotel is only 5 minutes away and other hotel shuttles came by at least twice.

Some noise-issues that should be mentioned. First there is a near constant wind noise from outside causing a low rumble. It can be deafening sometimes. Really wish the heater/air fan would stay on to hide this, but it doesn't work this way. I am also right across from the service elevator hear a sort of whining sound, most acutely early in the morning. Last, the hotel is undergoing renovations at this time, chiseling away at the floor above me and have a wing closed on my floor.

The place looks nice, has decent service, and has a free airport shuttle to Reagan, but you might want to wait on staying here until renovations are complete if noise is an issue with you.

Dear TVSAM1:

Thank you for taking your time to post a review regarding your recent stay at the Hilton Crystal City. Feedback from our guests is most valuable in creating the outstanding hotel experience that we wish to deliver to every guest.

Your ending comments regarding our great staff and excellent location are certainly very true. Now that we are finishing our renovation of the guests rooms and convention space, we expect any noise disturbance issues to subside.

I regret that the work being done was an inconvenience during your stay. Though we do everything in our power to make our guests as comfortable as possible, renovations and improvements can be a challenge.

I sincerely hope you will give us an opportunity during a future visit. I know you will enjoy our beautiful new guest rooms. Should you need assistance with booking, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you again for posting.

“Pretty decent Hilton - nothing special though”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I had a quick overnight here, and it was a pretty standard, unexciting Hilton. Staff members were pleasant. Hotel is undergoing renovation, so that's probably a good thing. For $200/night, I know it's standard for a full service DC area hotel, but I just didn't feel like I was getting anything for my money. What really irked me was that the business center was shut down because of the renovation. Really? You're a business hotel and you shut down access to printers for business travelers? Not what I needed to discover in the morning when i had to print things. Front desk staff let me use their interminably slow machine at the front desk to print something that took forever to load. Seriously, though, they should have set up a temporary space. That was crappy. The executive lounge had a well-stocked, standard Hilton lounge breakfast, but the chairs were wayyyyyyyyy too low for the tables (or the tables were tooooo high). Either way, it was terribly uncomfortable. No reason to stay here until they fix the place up.

Dear Seawall77:

Thank you for taking your valuable time to post a review on your recent stay at the Hilton Crystal City. We appreciate your selecting our hotel during your trip to the Washington DC area.

We are just finishing the final stages of a renovation project creating beautiful new guest rooms. All of our connvention space also received a complete renovation. Unfortunately, at this time the business center was moved from the plaza to the lobby level. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused.

I sincerely hope that you will give us another opportunity on your next trip to the area. I know that you will enjoy the completed upgrades and improvements.

Thank you again for your time to post.

“Good value when DC fills up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

I spend a lot of time in DC, and while this is not my first choice when I come to town, it is a good backup. That being said, if I need to catch an early morning flight, this is a great hotel to stay at. There is a shuttle that will get you to the airport in 5 minutes, the drivers are always very friendly and helpful, and the shuttle runs often.

The hotel is undergoing a renovation, so depending how busy they are, you might end up in an older room. Expect to deal with construction noise early in the morning - they tell you that it doesn't start until 8AM, but the contractors push the envelope, so you can expect to hear the first hammer pounding away around 7:30AM.

With the older room inventory and construction noise, I guess they need to be competitive with their room rates, because for a full service hotel, you can usually find a reasonably priced room at an OK price, even when DC fills up and the hotels downtown start charging $450+ a night. And while you won't be in downtown DC, the metro is a few blocks away and takes you right into the city. Again, not my first option, but I'm not spending $450 a night on a hotel, when I can get one for half the price a few metro stops away.

Related to the construction, I have had a few problems with hot water (specifically that lack of hot water), but the one time it was totally out of control (i.e. NO hot water), they comped me some points and were very apologetic.

In summary, this is not a great hotel, but is a good value for the right situation - e.g. you need to be close to the airport or you don't want to spend and arm and a leg in DC when the city is full.

Room Tip: This hotel is in the middle of a renovation, and many of the rooms have already been updated. When...

Dear 05343:

Thank you for taking time to post a review of your recent stay at the Hilton Crystal City. We appreciate your selecting our hotel for your travel needs while in the DC area.

You are absolutely correct in describing the value that comes along with our great location. We are convenient to everything in Northern Virginia and just a few Metro stops from downtown Washington DC. Our hotel also allows very easy access over the 14th Street bridge right into the city.

We are just finishing the final floor of our renovation, so every room is new. We think that the new room package is awesome. Feedback has been great to this point.

I sincerely hope that you will continue to think of us when staying in the DC area. If you ever require assistance with booking, please let me know. Thanks again for posting.

Safe travels,

“Mediocre, pricey, disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This is one of the most below average Hilton properties I have ever experienced. Don't expect any views from here other than parking lots and ugly rooftops. The room I stayed in was on one of the Hilton Honors floors. It looked barren and cold. The door did not shut tightly, as it had signs of having been pried open at some time. The TV screen was the perfect size—for viewing right in front of your face. The only problem being that it is fastened securely to the top of a dresser across the room at an uncomfortable viewing elevation. There was unannounced construction in the dining area and the 'executive lounge' was hardly what one would expect. It's fare was less than one gets at a holiday inn. The shuttle service from the airport was fairly slow and if you are walking back from the very close by Crystal City restaurants, there is no easy direct path to the front of the hotel without traversing traffic and driveways. The front desk staff are not knowledgeable about transportation and events. The hotel is three looong blocks and a lot of traffic from the nearest Metro (Crystal City). I never saw the concierge, although they have a perfunctory stand with tourist brochures. They charge premium prices for a substandard property. They also will not agree to extend a stay at your current rate, even when the hotel is not full (they wanted $100 on top of the rate I had paid for the first night). It made me feel as though they thought they could take advantage of me. One would be much better off at a newer medium brand hotel where they are often much more flexible and friendly.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

“Really!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

The Hilton meets all the prerequisites of a good hotel, however my last visit left me wishing for better. Beautiful room with two serious shortcomings; very dim light and no light over the shower kind of dark overall, small bathroom for two average people. In order to access the internet in your room, you have to pay for it, motel 6 has FREE internet. In case you did not feel welcome yet, there is a charge for parking. After a busy and tiring Saturday, I was looking forward to sleep late on Sunday morning, that did not happen thanks to an ill-scheduled construction work next door. The hammering and drilling and other assorted noises put an end to my beauty sleep. Great staff!
