“we loved it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

we came back because we loved the location, near the arlington cimetery and 5-6 minutes from the metro. Very good desk service. The room and the room service were ok. We also appreciated the restaurant LEDO nearby the hotel.

We did the family DC trip
Plusses:
-Comfortable good size queen beds (some place are putting in doubles and claiming two people can sleep in them. Most people buy queen beds for their home.)
-Good location. 12-15 minutes (kid pace on a hot day) to Rosslyn Metro, which is just a few stops from downtown DC
-Microwave and good size mini-fridge
-Some upgrades in room: new tile and vanity, two sinks (one in toilet/bath room) and one in alcove next to bath room.
-Restaurant on property (pizza and pasta)
-Helpful staff with maps of DC
-Free parking (a lot of hotels charge for parking in the DC area)
-Good size chest of drawers to store clothing and table and two chairs
-Rollaway beds was available, which we used

Minuses:
-Hotel building is old and even though the rooms are clean and maintained well they are still old.
-Building has two part: doors facing the hotel parking lot (older part) and doors facing an inside hallway (newer part). We stayed in the older part.
-Free "High-speed Internet" connected to 1Mpbs routers so it was slow, when I could get on. Had to go to the lobby a few times to get a better signal. Even my wife's Mac, which usually connects with no problem, had several timeouts. I suspect lots of people were connecting and just bogging down the network.
-Narrow parking spots. I know this is a big city, but they were narrow.
-Not the hotel's fault but the people would stand outside in the parking lot talking. We had to ask them to keep it down.
-We were next to the laundry room (stayed in 119) and frequently heard the washing machine, but the daily laundry didn't start until 7-8am when were were up or should have been up so it wasn't a big deal.

Overall, there were more tourists and business people, but I did see a fair amount of business travelers. I wouldn't stay as a business traveler only due to the slow Internet connection. If we took a family trip to DC or even just my wife and I, we would definitely consider staying here again.

The place was a bargain for being so close to Washington DC. Short walk to Metro/subway.
It was short drive to Arlington Cemetery. Place was very clean. The clerks were friendly and helpful. One thing, we set our GPS for the hotel address and it didn't find it. Luckily we spotted the Best Western sign across the highway on the other side.

We stayed here over July 4th week with our family of four. Overall, it was a good place for the price. It was substantially less than the hotels inside DC proper. The free parking and close proximity to restaurants and metro station were also a plus. My kids and I used the pool. It was ok, but could use a little updating. The only true negative about this hotel was the cleanliness of the carpeting in the room. The morning we checked out, our kids were running around the room in their white socks and within minutes they were completely black. It was pretty disgusting. We did make the folks at the desk aware of the problem. They were shocked and promised to rectify it.

WHAT A NITWIT... NEVER EVER BEST WESTERN
Apparently we chose a bad time to visit Washington - all the hotels we checked was either fully booked, or very expensive (250 - 500 dollars a night for a normal 3-star hotel).
Granted : we didn't book the hotel in advance. We were on a road trip, and was not quite sure when we going to be in the Washington area.
But OMG - I have never ever received such a condescending remark from a receptionist.. A young man, looking us up and down, saying "I have a suite, but I don't think you can afford it"...... WHAT - say again ?
Excuse me - I didn't see any rolls-royce in the parking lot, I didn't see any diamants and pearls on ANY of the guests, in fact I actually saw a guest with a plastic bag....
I don't think we look like "homeless" people - we bath every day - we change clothes everyday.
But that remark from a young man - how dare he...
This means that I will do my outmost to avoid Best Western in the future..

When we looked to book a 2 night stay to Washington DC midweek at the end of June, there were basically no rooms available anywhere. There were the few downtown DC but the lowest price was well over $300 a night. Then there were a couple dumps near the pentago around $140 a night but the reviews on these scared me off. Somehow we found this hotel on venere.com the night before we left. We actually only bought 1 night because it was still going for $200 a night. 2 double bed room. Location was 2-3 block walk to metro with a couple small hills. Room was nothing special, pretty small, clean and worked great as a place to sleep. Wouldn't have loved it if we were spending time in the room. We had an interior room in the mail building. The rooms with outdoor entrances looked more like a motel from the outside. (I can't comment on the interior of these rooms.) Only complaint really was the parking garage entrance bar thing that goes up and down when you put your key in was broke that night around 10pm. It took them like 30 to get the bar up so we could drive in the garage. there were no available parking spaces outside of the garage that night. Free Coffee and oranges/apples in lobby. Parking is free too. Overall good stay, wouldn't pay the price I did in another city. Oh also no shampoo in the bathroom. think they only had a bar of soap as far as bath stuff goes. But there was a microwave and small fridge. Good for small kids. But hardly any space for a pack and play or crib. Also an outdoor pool that we did not visit is available.

Room Tip: try to stay in the main building.
