“Comfortable, convenient, and affordable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2011

Based on good reviews, I stayed here for a week while looking for an apartment. I was not disappointed. MY room was clean and comfortable, with a modern feel, despite the age of the building. The full kitchen was great and the staff was extremely helpful, but a little slow. The metro shuttle was very helpful and even takes you to the local safeway. We could not have picked a better home base for our trip.

We think the Room and Ride package is great, otherwise we wouldn't stay. Plusses: The room is larger than even the Residence Inn 1 bedroom suites, and althought the building feels like it is from the 50's, the rooms are nicely updated. the front desk is very responsive. Breakfast is ok, maybe one notch down from the Residence Inn. Parking is easy and old-fashioned convenient...no garage. Parking is included in the room and ride, a great deal.

Minuses: The building has only two elevators, woefully inadequate. We were lucky enough to be on the 4th floor, which opens directly on to parking at the back of the building. Otherwise we would have gone bonkers waiting for elevators or had to trudge up as high as the 9th floor on foot. Also, we couldn't seem to get a simple 2 washcloths per day from housekeeping, and had to keep asking for them. I guess they need to buy some more. Also irritating: There are steps between the entrance and the ground floor elevator, and no ramp, so plan on schlepping your luggage up the stairs.

Room Tip: Get a room near the first or 4th floor if you don't want to get stuck waiting for an elevator.

We arrived on a Friday night and Will at the front desk was very helpful and kind! The hotel has really the typical hallways. Nothing is perfect in any hotel and you can tell this one is a little older. I saw complaints about the elevators being slow, but this was not my experence. The room was very large. We had a problem with the lights in the bedroom not working correctly and called the front desk, within 3 minutes we had a very nice gentelman at the door with a smile on his face (and this was at 11pm at night). The beds were comfortable. Our children took turns out on the pull out sofa bed, and while I would not have wanted to sleep on it (lumpy typical sofa bed) the kids loved it and slept great. When ever we needed anything from the hotel staff we were greeted with a smile....even when they were delivering the kitchen items we requested. We did make use of the pool which was beautiful and I really couldn't believe more people weren't there. They even have a life gaurd on duty, which really suprised me. We took advatage of the breakfast on the Monday morning while we were there. It was a glorified contiental breakfast, packaged cereal and pastries. They also had frozen breakfast sandwiches you could cook in the microwave. This worked well for our family, but if you want made to order food you would have to go to a resturant, or make use of the full kitchen in your suite. All in all this hotel was a great value. If you nit pick, there were some flaws in the carpet in the hallways, some spots the paint wasn't perfect, but really...who cares?? The rooms/bathrooms are clean and comfortable there is hot water in the shower and it is affordable. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to the metro which was great. They have a shuttle service during the week, but we were mainly there on the weekend. I also saw complaints on here about being in the flight path of the airport. Well if you stay in DC you will hear airplanes pretty much wherever you stay. The planes do fly directly over the hotel, but with our air conditioning on we didn't hear it much if at all. Really only when we were outside. We will be back if we are ever in the area again.

We stayed here for 9 days in June and were very satisfied with the hotel and the staff. We had a one bed suite which was very spacious and clean (we were three people); service was perfect; the laundry room was clean and very handy; the shuttle to the metro was much appreciated as we could leave our car parked for all that time; breakfast was good and the public areas were large and clean. Great value for money!

I really do not understand why this hotel is rated as high as it is. The Hotel is totally inaccessible from the point of there being no ramps from the parking lot into the front door or up to the elevator. (I am not sure how they meet ADA accessability codes that were created in Washington, D.C.). The elevators were small and took forever (we took the stairs because we got tired of waiting). Each floor had a strange smell I could not place. The rooms were OK at best, not the greatest but not anywhere near where they are rated. The internet access was very slow and lost connection numerous times. Your continental breakfast is a daily fee for frozen biscuit sandwiches that you cook yourself and frozen french toast you cook yourself. I would not recommend this hotel unless you have no other choice.

The most important thing for a hotel, that charges hotel rates, is to have clean rooms, clean bed sheets and clean/dry towels. Upon arrival at this hotel, we approached what seemed to be amateurs, unfriendly staff. People who didn't really look like they wanted to be there. I then entered my room, very large room with a kitchen. Was it modern? Yes, I'd say recently renovated (5-7 years ago)...was it clean? Heck, NO. The first thing I did was to check the towels, they were DAMP...almost WET! So at first, I was like: they didn't put them in the dryer...and then I saw the stains and hairs on them....so basically, we were given USED towels!!! Disgusting. The bed sheets...even worst....they didn't smell like they were washed, they had stains, hair....and actually, if you look at the housekeeping cart's in the morning, none of them have FRESH bed sheets...they basically make your bed with the same sheets...the same sheets from previous guests....RESULT: BED BUGS!!..for our 3 nights stay I was scratching and had bites everywhere....terrible. I asked for some extra bedsheets....never got them...and the bed sheets are beige/off white, I'm guessing so the dirt won't show, but it does! PARKING, you're charged...for no good reason: there's no security guard looking after the cars, so why am I paying for parking? At 1 am at night, lobby, completely empty, no one in front desk.....POOL, okay, but closes at either 8or 9 pm......full kitchen (utensils/cups only upon request)...but there was a nice cockroach on the counter......under the bed: science project/disgusting...TO SUM IT UP: it's basically an apartment building which was recently and slightly renovated.....staff is unexperienced...security 0, people enter the hotel, leave flyers...nobody at front dest at night...has a pool....and you pay 9$ parking a day....basically, it's a make a quick buck $ operation...and if the hotel manager/owner is actually serious in improving: take your entire staff and spend 2 nights at a Marriot, then you'll see what you're doing wrong!

The rooms are surprisingly spacious and have plenty of closet space: we will definitely keep the hotel in mind when we transition back to the US from overseas. Our room had been recently updated: it was freshly painted and with new furnishings. The bed was not particularly comfortable, (it wasn't horrible, though) and the air-conditioning units were noisy. On the other hand, we pointed out to maintenance that one room wasn't cooling properly and the problem was resolved immediately. The bathroom was very small and it appeared to be the one part of the room that had not been updated, except for cosmetics. The common areas, especially the hallways, were a bit tired, in some instances with stained (or bleached) and fraying carpet. Two automatic distributors (refrigerated and frozen) provided handy access to a limited number of food items. The breakfast was forgettable, but it offered a variety of individually packaged cereals, muffins and danishes, plus apples and bananas, so it could work for some. The pool was nice, with a life guard on duty whenever the pool was open, and it appeared to be well used by patrons. Service (cleaning staff, maintenance, and front desk) were very helpful and kind, and remedied glitches due to their inexperience with their good will and eagerness.
