I always wanted to try a Korean restaurant but two things stopped me: (1) Often Korean restaurants in the DC Metro area tend to cater exclusively to Koreans to the point of only printing their menus in Korean and (2) my husband was most unwilling to try it. So one day we offered to take my aunt to dinner and asked her if she would like to go to a specific restaurant and she said "Sorak Garden". It seems that a Korean friend of hers spoke highly of the place. Well, my husband and daughter both agreed in the interest of being polite!
We got to the place and noticed a good number of non-Korean diners. The menu was in English and featured Japanese as well as Korean items. (If we wanted Japanese food, we would have gone to a Japanese restaurant.) The waitress was very friendly, as well as polite and patiently answered all our questions about the food. Three of us decided to try Bulgogi, a thinly sliced meat dish that you cook yourself right at your table. The food was quite good and the staff extremely attentive. In addition to the waitress, a waiter often came by to see how we were doing. In fact, when they both noticed that we needed to cook some more meat, they would just do it for us. Our daughter decided to try a sweet and sour pork dish and we were astonished at the size of the portion--three people could have been fed from it! It was different from the Chinese version, in that the pork pieces were dipped in a batter and fried.
If you want to experience Korean food, then I would highly recommend Sorak Garden. The staff makes your dining experience very pleasant.
