“Good place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2012

My daughter and I stayed at this hotel June 7-10, 2012, as part of a group of about 47. We were visiting DC for the Girl Scouts Rock the Mall event, so we were in a large group of people. We checked in on the evening of the 7th and our room was ready. We found the room plenty big for the 2 of us and rather unique in the set up, but we liked it. Housekeeping was good, room was clean and had 2 TV's. The bed was very comfortable and hotel looked well maintained. The continental breakfast was some what limited to coffee, juice, cereal, fruit and granola bars (no hot food unless you paid extra, so some of our larger party was disappointed). The hotel is several blocks from Old Town, but it was walking distance to shopping and many restaurants, and several blocks from a Metro stop, so the location is VERY good. We did not use the shuttle, it may have not been offered due to us being part of a tour group, but overrall our experience was very good.

Thanks so much for your comments. The Rock the Mall was a great event and the hotel had over 650 people here just for that. The group terms and offerings were pre arranged so we made sure that for anyone that wanted additional breakfast items could have that option. I am glad you had a nice visit and hope should your travels bring you back to our area that you will think of us first. Again, thanks for your comments and we hope to see you soon.

Warm Regards,

Steve W.

Stayed one night while going to a Nationals Game. The rooms were clean and comfortable. If you are looking for great customer service, you need to stay at this hotel! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We were looking for a kid friendly restaurant to have lunch and the front desk recommended TJ Stone's. When we arrived they already knew we were coming and had our table ready. Thank you for going that extra mile and calling ahead for us!

After quite a storm in the Washington Metro area, we found ourselves with no power on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Being stuck in a high-rise condo with a western exposure meant that we had to find a hotel for the night. The Old Town Sheraton was very near home, so I called to confirm they had power and the nice lady on the desk urged us to book quickly as things were filling up due to others in our situation. Booked through Orbitz, which saved us about $60 and off we trundled to the Old Town Sheraton. Nice desk staff, clean lobby, nicely appointed. The room was super clean (even I couldn't find any problems.) The room had a sitting area with mini-fridge, microwave and sink, the bedroom had a TV and the bath had a tub. The only kick I had was the one I constantly have with hotels. Why can't they find sheets that fit the bed?
Checked out this morning and off to work. We didn't plan this visit, but the hotel delivered in the best way.

Wow, thanks for your comments. You would never had known that the power was out for 2 days and we were quickly able to pull everything together to accommodate the many guests stranded with no A/C once we were restored during your visit. Our linen service was also held up but otherwise we were back in business without missing a beat. Again, thanks for your comments and hopefully we can be there for you in the future under better conditions.

Kindly,

Steve W.

We came to Alexandria looking forward to a really nice stay. When we got to the hotel, we were greeted by a dark hot lobby. The power had been out almost 24 hours. To make matters worse, there were no rooms available for over a hundred miles and it was a record heat wave with 100+ degree temperatures. Having driven all the way from Florida, we had no choice but to stay... With no power, A/C, or hot water. Being an SPG Platinum member, I was shocked I was not notified well ahead of check-in. There was also no manager in site to handle the growing number of complaints. The only bright spot was Diana, who works at the front desk. She was the only staff member to keep me from totally loosing it. We cut our stay short in Alexandria and not sure if we'll return.

Thanks so much for your feedback. While from time to time there are power outages you can imagine the staff is pulled in many different directions. What made matters worse was that the local area phone networds were also down and communicating with the outside was very difficult. Our back up generators were up and running and while the hotel had no phone service and A/C we did have staff ready and willing to help as best we could. Many guests were very thankful for the staff that went above and beyond what they expected and while some were disappointed they understood that we could not control the power company. Please do give us another try and thanks for sharing your concern. We have certainly learned more from this experience and hope we can demonstrate our commitment to your comfort in the future.

Warmest Regards,

Steve W.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights over a weekend. The room was clean and comfortable, but very dated. Little packing space for luggage, unless you use the in-suite lounge as packing space. I arrived late 10pm after a long flight from Dubai. I wanted to get something quick to eat. The kitchen in the hotel was closed at 10pm on a Friday night. What??? No room service either, shocking for a hotel in the 'nations capital'. I was told I can to go to a restaurant around the corner (who name slips my mind), but very good food. I didnt eat in the hotel at all, so cannot comment on the food. However, the coffee in the room (self made of course), was just plain crap.
I found the staff at the hotel impersonal, I felt like I was doing them a favour by staying at the hotel. I wont be going back there any time soon thanks.

Ok location and close to the sights in DC.

Room Tip: Look for another hotel.

Thanks so much for making me aware of your concerns about your recent visit. I want to apologize that the staff did not connect with you as this is one of our first and most important goals as a Sheraton Hotel. While it is true this hotel does close the kitchen at 10pm we are not alone surprisingly in Washington DC where many restaurants close early. Our staff is always prepared with local dining options and late night delivery menus and our snack shop is open 24 hours. Our rooms have been all redone with marble bathrooms, new carpet and sofas along with a white bedding package that guests rave about. Perhaps the earthtone colors are not to your liking which we understand. Again, thanks so much for your feedback and please feel free to reach out to me directly in the future so that I can personally see to your accommodations and demonstrate our commitment to your comfort.

Kind Regards,

Steve W.

Pros:
- Shuttle
- Food options within walking distance
- Friendly/competent staff

Cons:
- Rooms/furniture need renovation
- Housekeeping issues
- Worn gym equipment

The shuttle from the airport arrived on time which is rare for airport hotels.  The front desk clerk was friendly and scheduled a taxi for me the next morning that arrived on time.  The room was dated, the furniture was very scratched up and the couch and chairs were stained.  The vent above the shower was gross.  It was covered in dust, dirt and had hair sticking out of it.  It would be impossible for a housekeeping supervisor not to notice it if they were properly inspecting rooms.  The room is very large for a DC hotel.  The gym is renovated to look like newer Sheraton gyms, but the equipment needs to be replaced.  Most of it is old, noisy and scratched up.  The food in the club looked pretty rough, but fortunately there are several restaurants close to the hotel.  There is also a grocery store with a very good salad bar within a block of the hotel.  Overall, this hotel is ok.  It's certainly not my first choice in DC, but I would be willing to try this hotel again if other options were not available.

Dear Mustangcop- Thanks so much for your comments as we always appreciate good feedback. I wanted to apologize that our hotel was not up to the standards we demand and the failure in housekeeping. You can be sure we will redouble our efforts as the sofas and furniture should always be new looking and our vents should be free of dust. The exercise equipment is only 1 year old and should be in good working order but you can be sure we will have them looked at. Our Club lounge is open for breakfast and evening hors devours with a varying menu so that hopefully our guests can sample different items during their stay. Again, thanks so much for your comments and please do visit us again so that we can demonstrate our commitment to your comfort.

Most Sincerely,

Steve W.

We stayed at this hotel while traveling to D.C. for the Girl Scout event on June 9th. We stayed 5 nights and had a great time. The hotel staff were attentive and helpful (Max and Zach at the front desk were extremely helpful any time we had questions or issues). The hotel made special arrangements for their Girl Scout guests to have free continental breakfast, which was a huge help for us. Because there were 700+ Girl Scouts staying in the hotel, breakfast was a bit cramped, but I feel like they did the best they could with the space available (and anyone who would complain about free food should probably just go across the street and pay for theirs). Our suite was spacious and clean, absolutely no problems there. The shuttle drivers were extremely accommodating and we had no trouble getting a ride to and from the Braddock Road metro station. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay outside of D.C.

Thanks so much for noticing our efforts during the Rock the Mall Girl Scout weekend. We take special pride in trying to anticipate the needs of our visitors and this was no exception. We were staffed and ready for the 700 girl scouts staying with us when other hotels were scrambling to handle the event. You can be sure we will keep making the effort and I will certainly congratulate Max and Zach for a job well done. We hope to see you again soon!

Most Sincerely,

Steve W.
