“Nice hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

I reserved 2 rooms here for the Alexandria Arts Festival which is held in Old Town. I got a great rate on Hotwire for this hotel, which made our stay even sweeter!

I check in for myself and for our friend's room. The woman at the front desk, Rashad (I think that was her name), was extremely helpful and kind. I really felt welcomed. We were given 2 king rooms on the 11th floor. Our rooms were across the hall from each other and both had nice views of the Potomac. The were standard hotel fare for the most part, but nice. The beds were very comfortable and I slept very well.

It is about an 8 block walk to King Street, the heart of Old Town, which was not too bad considering the weather was good that day. They do have a shuttle that runs to King St., but it did not start running till 2 pm. They have a restaurant in the hotel, but we did not use it. About a block down and 2 blocks up is The Royal Restaurant, which has a fantastic breakfast buffet, which we always try to visit when we in Alexandria.

I would definitely stay at the Crowne Plaza again!

The room was very clean and comfortable, however, the air conditioner sounded like a single engine airplane taking off. The first night I wore the provided earplugs, but the second night the maids had taken them away. By the third night, I had become used to the noise and it didn't seem as bad. The room really needed to be updated. Hotels seem to add a down comforter, a shower curtain that scoops outward, and nice pillows and think they have updated the room.
My main complaint was with the people at the desk. They were very uninformed about getting around the area. We asked if there was a free shuttle to the metro as stated on their website and they told us no. We found out on our last day that they did provide a shuttle to the metro at the Ronald Regan airport.
The food at the hotel was very expensive, but a walk to King Street provided some really great food. There is also a grocery store close by to pick up snacks and drinks, etc. Overall, it wasn't a bad place to stay and I would recommend it to a friend.

The hotel is situated close to the Potomac River and some local shops. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The facilities were great but the location may not be convenient to travellers without a car. However, the price was reasonable and this hotel certainly represents value for money.

Rooms are fairly spacious and clean. The pool was either non-existant or closed. We were sent over to the holiday inn to use the pool, which was also closed.

Ignore the poor reviews you see. I imagine they were written before the hotel was refurbished. We found it immaculate, with a large, clean and very well equipped room and a superb view of the Potomac River from the 12th floor. Parking is free overnight after 5pm on the road outside, so you can avoid the $20 parking charge. Have breakfast at Perk's just across the road - lovely food and offers a full English if you prefer it. We would definitely return. We booked through a third party and got amazing value!

It has been renovated about 2 years ago but the furniture (side table) and room carpets show more than reasonable wear and tear. The location is not close to King St. but it is very close to the river.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2010

Went to DC for the July 4th and got this through priceline. The location is very good, about 7 miles from DC downtown and was a easy drive to the hotel. The hotel itself is maintained very well. Very clean, nice carpets, beautiful common areas. The rooms are very nice as well. We got one with two double beds and the beds were very comfortable, with lots of plushy pillows and nice linens. The bathroom compared to the room size was a little smaller. But since the layout was nice, the space usage was very efficient and very comfortable. We could see the Washington monument at a distance and that was a plus. Also our room had a partial river view and that was excellent too.

The maid service was fine, cleaned the room and it was perfect when we returned. There was a power outage one night in the Alexandria area. The hotel staff were very cooperative and tried to answer all the questions and kept the guests calm. So over all very nice experience.

Few things you need to know before booking this hotel. They don't have a pool. Also they charge $20 for overnight car parking. If you have a priority club membership, this drops to $10.
