We stayed 2 nights here as part of an escorted tour of the NE USA. The hotel is located about 7 miles south of Washington DC and was the base for our trips into the capital. The rooms were clean and spacious and the beds were comfortable. The hotel lies on the flight path into Reagan National airport so there is some overhead aircraft noise as they come in or leave the airport. However this stops at around 10:00 pm and does not start until about 8:00 am in the morning so was not a problem for us. We had a problem with the air conditioning but this was fixed within 30 minutes of it being reported to the front desk. The front desk and other staff we met were cheerful and helpful even getting me set up on the wi-fi service (you have to join their loyalty scheme to do this by the way). The interest in Alexandria itself is the historic waterfront and King Street which runs from the water front to the metro station. We were taken into Washington DC by our tour coach so did not have to try the public transport options. However Braddock St station is 8 blocks over and runs 15 minutes into the National Mall in Washington DC on the yellow line. Or the hotel runs a shuttle bus to Reagan airport where you can catch a train into Washington. Or, as we discovered on the last day, if you walk along the river front towards King Street you can catch a water taxi across and along the Potomac River to the National Mall, this takes a bout 30 minutes. Near the hotel are a couple of deli/breakfast type cafes and a decent Thai restaurant. There is a Giant supermarket two blocks away for any groceries and supplies you may need. It is worth strolling along the 2 miles of Kings street (8 blocks along the river front from the hotel) to peruse the interesting small shops. There is a free trolley bus that runs up and down Kings St at 15 minute intervals if your legs get tired.
