Hotel rooms in DC are outrageously priced. You will find a better value looking in Arlington or Alexandria, VA. I stumbled on this property while searching for a room when the conference rooms I was attending at the JW Marriott in DC was sold out. While not located downtown DC, it is only a $20-25 dollar cab ride, or a short Metro ride to the city. The Monaco raises the bar for all my future hotel stays. The rate at the Monaco was almost $100 LESS per night than the "negotiated" conference rate.
The Monaco provides a great atmosphere and ambiance I'm not sure I've experienced in a hotel before. Amenities include 24-hour room service, mini-bar, adjacent restaurant, robes, a nightly wine reception and free airport shuttle. The staff is extremely courteous from the bellman to the engineers.
The rooms are clean, large, nicely appointed. The bathroom was large, tiled in marble, with a shower/bath combination. Bathroom amenities are a little more upscale. Shower provided plenty of hot water, good water pressure and large plush towels to dry with. One area of improvement could be the bathroom needs better lighting. The sleeping area had a comfortable king bed, work desk, and additional chair. Work area had adequate light, comfortable chair and plenty of outlets for your electronics. Kimpton INTOUCH members get free internet. Bed was great with nice linen, and soft pillows and provided a good comfortable rest. The HVAC was quiet and maintained a comfortable temperature in the room during my stay in spite of the changing weather.
Old Town has plenty of restaurants within walking distance; the adjacent Jackson 20 restaurant was also very good. I booked this hotel with high expectations and they met the challenge and I look forward to my next stay at a Kimpton property.
