“Visiting the newlyweds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2011

The location was a mile away from our daughter. We could walk to her place. The Metro was very close and handy. The hotel itself was under construction. Our room was good. My only complaint is that the pillows are too small. Yes, they say soft and firm but but when you use two it hurts the neck. The last night we had some YAHOOS come in at 1am screaming and laughing. We had an early day due to driving back to Boston. I was about to call the front desk but security came up and handled it. People can be so rude and unfeeling of others. I would recommend staying here, the price is good. The staff was was very helpful.

Room Tip: WE stayed on the eighth floor facing the highway, it was a bit noisy in the morning with traffic.

Rooms are updated and very nice. Staff is great. Walking distance to subway. Once on subway you can go anywhere in DC. Also walking distance to many restaurants and a movie theater. Small bar/restaurant has a great hamburger platter, chicken sandwich platter and other stuff that is priced under $10.00. Good reasonably priced beer also.

So my adivice is Don't stay there. That way there will always be a vacancy when I come to DC.

My husband and I came to Alexandria, VA for a 3 day weekend and wanted to stay somewhere near King Street/ Old Town. We called the reservationist and asked for details about the property. She assured us it was a 3 star property with modern amenities. What we actually received was FAR from ANY star amenities, much less 3 star.
First of all, we realized once we checked into the hotel that they actually charge $18 more on the rack rate for the SECOND occupant. The rate was $150 for a single, and b/c we were a couple in a DOUBLE (not even King) bed, we had to pay $168. Since when did hotels start charging for the 2nd occupant. Most hotels have a standard rate based on TWO occupants, not ONE. Ridiculous.
Next, our phone didn't work in our room. Every time we needed anything from the front desk, we had to travel from the 8th floor, down to the lobby, to get any assistance. We asked for them to replace it when we arrived on Thursday. They replaced it Saturday afternoon and we left Sunday at 6am. Awesome...glad we got to use the phone.

Out of ten floors, there were coke and ice machines on EVERY floor and 3 in the lobby. Guess how many worked...... 1 ice machine on the 10th floor and 2 coke machines on the 8th and 5th with VERY limited supply. Absolutely no water in any of the machines...sold out. I understand that the coke machines are contracted out, but for the sake of your guests, stay on them to refill the machines. With the tap water the way it is in the DC area, we insisted on bottled water. The gentleman that works the night shift did not help us one bit when we asked how or where to get water since the machines were sold out. He said there was nothing he could do to help. However, the next morning, I went to the front desk (because I couldn't call) to ask about the phone situation and I mentioned the water issue. He gladly went into a closet and gave me 4 small bottled waters for our room and apologized for the inconvenience. Now why didn't the attendant from the night before offer that?????

The whole reason they charge what they do is because they are right beside the Metro Station. Save yourself the trouble and stay at the Courtyard Marriot right across the bridge. It's more affordable and MUCH nicer. I beg to differ when Holiday Inn on Eisenhower Ave considers itself 3 star.... it is far, far from that.

This Holiday Inn can be a little tricky to get to (road construction all around it), and it's showing some wear and tear. But overall it was quite acceptable for a family traveling to the DC area for a weekend sight-seeing tour. It has a small pool, kept warm. Multiple elevators so not much waiting around. The price was reasonable considering any hotels closer to DC or newer. We asked for extra items for the room and was given everything we needed, no questions.

The best part is it's proximity to the DC Metro. It's a five minute walk to the Metro, allowing you to leave your car at the hotel and not worry about paying for parking.

Ask around for help if you've never been on the Metro. We found the Metro staff to be helpful and kind. The Metro can get you to almost any place you want to go in DC.

By the way the Reagan National Airport is about three Metro stops from the hotel!

I stay about a dozen times a year. This hotel is well managed, rooms are quite nice, beds VERY luxurious and comfy. Free shuttle service to Old Town Alexandria, which is a mile away; a walk down King Street is a sweet adventure...wonderful shops and restaurants (of every variety). Also there's a metro station next door (easy trip into DC). And right there, within two blocks of the hotel, are many nice restaurants...Ted's Montana Grill and Yves's Bistro to name a few...there are Thai places and also chains like Ruby Tuesday and some tex-mex places. Become a Priority Club member and the prices get better and free upgrades are available. Weekends are cheap! Business week...that costs much more.

Room Tip: Priority Club members do well here.

We spent a night here and it was perfect for us.
The room was older but very clean and had been updated. We were on the 8th floor and had great views. The beds and pillows were great. It had a small fridge and microwave.
It was so quiet I do not know if anyone else was on our floor. There were a couple busses of school children, but I never saw or heard them.
At check out I was told we could leave our car there till midnight that night. We walked less than five minutes to the Eisenhower Metro station and spent the day sightseeing. After about a 30 minute ride back, we walked next door to the hotel and left.
I would highly recommend this hotel. The area was safe and the hotel was great and very convenient to downtown DC. We used Entertainment card and the price was amazingly low for DC.

Room Tip: I liked the rooms that did not face the metro station.

We stayed here for the price ($99/night at the time) and it's location near a Metro. The hotel was an OK stay. The staff was nice and helpful when we wanted to check in early. They allowed us to store our bags and my husbands bicycle for the tour he just rode in (Police Unity Tour).

We had breakfast one morning. The food was good and staff friendly. I had milk for my baby that went bad, and they were nice enough to give us milk for her bottles.

The room was clean for the most part. There were some spots of mold in the shower and parts of the ceiling that were slightly damaged from repeated exposure to steam and wetness.

The metro is right next store. You need to walk across the their parking lot, across a road (highway off ramp), and a parking lots length up to the station. Across from the station is a area with various restaurtants and a movie theater. There was some police action at the Friendly's and movie theater, but there were other nice places to eat.

Free parking.

Room Tip: I kept checking and checking
