My family and I spent seven nights and eight days in the Washington DC area recently and stayed at the Executive Club Suites in Alexandria while we were there. It is located on the edge of Old Town Alexandria, and the trees and flowers were beautiful while we were there. We had a one bedroom suite located in the basement of one of their several buildings and paid $97/night on the weekend nights and $112/night on the weekday nights. The suite was dark and smelled a bit damp/moldy since we were in the basement. However, it met most of our needs and was reasonably well furnished. The bedroom had a queen bed, ample closet and dresser space and a small TV. The mattress could stand to be replaced. Our kids slept on the pullout couch in the family room, which was fine for them at ages 6 and 9. The kitchen featured a full-size refrigerator, but the "oven" was a micro-bake combo that was basically useless. The stove top was good size and efficient, and we also had a full-size dishwasher and sink. The bathroom was average and a bit tired, but everything worked.
We mostly have good things to say about the staff - efficient, helpful, courteous. The advertised shuttle to the metro was a nice plus, but not always reliable. We waited for an hour one evening even though they had said they'd be there in 10-15 minutes! We enjoyed a free cookout one night, and the kids loaded up on the free donuts every morning. The free continental breakfast included fresh fruit, juices, donuts, muffins, croissants, coffee and tea. Nothing earthshattering, but certainly enough to start your day. We'd go back to Executive Club Suites because it is a good value, especially in the DC area, but I would request an upper-floor room!
