“Best Grill in DC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2012

It is a must try restaurant in DC Metropolitan.
Wonderful food, great service and a reasonable price.
Most likely you will have a chance to meet owners and ask about any little detail related to the food served. Catering is available (best value in town).

“Superb Balkin Food in Alexandria”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

The Cosmopolitan is a welcome addition to the diverse restaurant offerings on Route One. I have been there twice and have not been disappointed. If you have lived in Europe and want Balkan food as you remember, this is the real deal. I only wish they had a better beer selection on tap.

“A surprisingly high quality European restaurant hidden in a strip mall”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2012 via mobile

We went for dinner with the whole family (3 kids) and our German Au Pair. A great meal and the Wiener Schnitzle was very good and got the very positive vote from our Au pair. She said it is not the best she has had, but a very good effort. Great bread with the meal. There is no kids menu, but each of our kids (ages 8, 9, 11) was able to find something on the menu they loved. Good wine list. Short but good beer list. Interior atmosphere is surprisingly nice for the strip mall location. I rated value as a 3 because I would rather have had smaller entrees for a lower price than $19 entrees and everyone left with a to-go box because the portions were so big. My Au pair was very happy to find Milka and Kinder chocolates for sale!

“Glad we rediscovered The Cosmopolitan!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

This restaurant was in a different location a few years ago and then it closed - I assumed for good. I just discovered that it actually re-located to its present location. The atmosphere inside this new space is cozy and the restaurant fills up pretty quickly in the evening. There also seem to be large parties with tables pushed together, which may impact wait times. But it will be worth the wait! The service was wonderful - friendly, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating servers. When I was unsure of a wine choice, the server suggested a selection and then offered to let me taste a sample - and it was a great choice! As others note, the bread and cheese/butter spread is a smooth, decadent introduction into the cuisine. The fresh bread is tender and tasty. The goulash was also tasty and not a smidge was left after being swiped out with the soft bread. The schnitzels were prepared perfectly - moist and tender inside, crispy but not greasy on the outside. Spaetzle dish was very, very good - it came as a side to one of our entrees. We were stuffed and took home a slice of their chocolate/orange cake which they were happy to box up for us to-go. It was a moist, light and rich ending to a perfect meal. I am so glad to have found The Cosmopolitan again! The only reason I'm not giving it a 5-star is due to its current location. The parking lot can be a real pain with all the gym-goers and it's not easy to get into or out of the lot from Rt. 1. I wish they had stayed at the old location which was across from the Huntingon Metro stop and had ample parking - that way lots of other folks could enjoy the wonderful experience of "Cosmopolitan" dining!
