“Not a typical Wright house and not a typical mansion either!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

While not the original location for this FLW house, it does work with the land as he would have wanted. The docent here was well informed and interesting (I am finding this to be the case with all FLW houses). This is one of the houses he designed for the ordinary working man. One recently sold for over 2 million! The Woodlawn Plantation was a novelty as it was decorated by students incorporating modern decor with the some of the original furnishings. The result was a home anyone would enjoy living in! This exhibit is only for a few months and the mansion will then once again be turned into the mansion it was. A delightful surprise to what I thought would be just another tour of an old house.

“Contrast in Housing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

What a difference in what design can make, the big stately, classical colonial of Nelly Custis, and the Frank Loyd Wright bungalow, with it's Pullman car inspired hallways. Be sure to add to your trip to Mount Vernon. The gardens are lovely in spring time and summer. A great place to just enjoy the day.

“Woodlawn Plantation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

A beautiful Mansion, tastefully appointed, in a beautiful parklike location. Learn about George Washington's family lifestyle, and compare with Frank Lloyd Wright's view of post WW II housing.
In March, the yearly Needlework exhibit is an added attraction well worth the visit on its own.
The park offers picnic tables and a play area for children to enjoy during warmer months.

“Good Luck if you want to visit Woodlawn!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

We attempted to visit the Woodlawn plantation after a year of renovations on Monday March 26th. The DC area had a "major" snowstorm of about a half of an inch. We visited Woodlawn at 10:30AM with the hope of taking a tour. We were greeted by a worker who was shoveling the large amount of snow. She informed us the mansion was closed until 12:00PM. She informed us this was due to their schedule which follows the Fairfax count yschool system schedule. Has anyone heard of this type of a schedule? We live in NJ and have looked forward to visiting the mansion for over a year. We will attempt to visit again when the weather is perfect.

“Worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

Another superior example of Wright's imagination and vision! This Usonian house has an interesting history -- it's been physically moved twice, first because of the construction of an interstate highway and second because of the soil onto which it was moved. The house is small but is design is imaginative. Our tour guide for the Pope-Leighey house was excellent and clearly was enthusiastic about being able o be a guide. The guided tour is about 30 minutes (and there is a tour every 30 minutes).
