What a wonderful cafe and a great discovery! Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff, and a lovely space. The fresh orange juice machine was fun, too. We'll be back soon to eat another meal.

“Don't walk by...walk in!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

This place is a find! It’s an unpretentious, sunny stop in the heart of Alexandria’s shopping area. We stumbled upon it last spring during our visit to Virginia and couldn’t wait to return during our latest trip in January. Freshly prepared selections served in a flash by a friendly staff. What more could you ask for? Grab a spot in the window and watch the pedestrians stroll past as you enjoy truly unusual items from their breakfast menu. Their Migas breakfast special joined eggs in an unusual, tasty combination that packed a surprising kick. Yum! Don’t miss the freshly squeezed OJ that’s produced before your eyes by an entertaining juicing machine that fascinates kids and adults. If you miss them for breakfast, Bittersweet also offers a sandwiches and a buffet that changes to suit the time of day. And don’t forget the sweets! There’s no need to stand in block-long lines for cupcakes. You can get them here any time you walk in.

“Damn delicious sandwiches”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014

Came here to see a blues performer for the Alexandria First Night event and decided to grab something to eat. I had the turkey BLT (mmmmh! tasty!) and my partner had a Reuben panini, which was a bit too thin for their liking. Nevertheless, delicious stuff.

Their lemonade is awesome too and surprisingly well priced considering you're in the Alexandria region. Totally recommended!

Lassie-92, We are glad you had a wonderful time on new year's eve. Our turkey BLT happens to be one of our best sellers, we’re glad it lived up to its reputation. And thank you for the feedback on the Panini - we appreciate any feedback to improve our products and better serve you.

“Bittersweet indeed!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013 via mobile

Before doing some Christmas shopping in old town, I needed a quick bite. I asked the locals and some suggested bittersweet. I walk in, its nice, guy at the counter greeted me with a smile. He gave me suggestions on where to shop for my girlfriend. I ordered the chicken panini as recommend by the guy with a smile at the counter. It took 15 minutes to get my sandwich and when I got it it was burned on the outside and cold in the middle. They offered me something else but I dint want to wait. Thank you for your shopping suggestions though.

Dear Dean:

We're so sorry to hear you had this experience - this is definitely not our standard. We soon after realized we had a problem with our Panini grill but our service staff should have caught this before you were served. Clearly we have some training to do with some of our new employees and we appreciate your bringing this to our attention. We'd be grateful for the opportunity to serve you again, so please let us know how we can send you a gift card for another try. Thank you again - comments like yours are the only way we can learn and improve our service. Have a great holiday.

“Sweet Tooth”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

This place had a good choice of sweets but we just came in for the cupcakes which were good but very over priced. We live in Las Vegas and I guess we are spoiled as we have so many great food choices....
