“great choice for a quick breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

This little place provides probably the best quick weekday breakfast option in Old Town. service is quick and efficient (never seen a long line, even in peak hours), food is always excellent - including great coffee brews!

“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

The name of this establishment hides the fact that it is more than a coffee and pastry/cupcake establishment. The chef produces wonderful fare. We visited Friday, which is Mexican food night. Being from Texas, we were skeptical. We were wonderfully surprised at the complexity and flavor of the food served. This is a must see and eat establishment.

“great choice for locals and visitors!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

I've eaten at Bittersweet many, many times over the years including when i lived in DC and nowadays whenever I visit the area. i read the one star review about the cafe being "never open". I remember that they close at 5 on sunday and monday but otherwise they open early and stay open late. The food is always excellent. The staff is so nice, especially Alice at the front door!

“Good Take Out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Stopped on a warm March afternoon on the way back to the hotel for a break. Wonderful sandwiches and a hot bar. Easy take out. Yummy cupcakes to top off the meal.

“Never Open!!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2013 via mobile

It's a hard place to visit when it is never open!! The staff seems to like to scratch out the times/hours of operation with an grease pen, and fit it to what they want. Tried three times in a week to visit with no luck..go to Pops instead..

Thank you for your comments and we're sorry to have missed you. During the week we open at 7:00 am and most days close at 9:00 pm. The exception being Sunday and Monday when we close at 5:00 pm. (we like to let our staff have family time on Sundays and we clean and do maintenence on Monday nights).

We did change our hours of operation back in October so that we could be open later with our Mexico City inspired cuisine.

We hope you'll give us another try and discover why we've been a neighborhood favorite since 1983.
